An Indonesian football player has been caught punching a referee in the face during a Super League match.

Pieter Rumaropen's team Persiwa Wamena was tied 1:1 with Pelita Bandung Raya when Pelita were awarded a penalty eight minutes before the end.

Video replays of the incident then showed Rumaropen swinging a left hook on the referee who had to be admitted to a hospital due to excessive bleeding from his nose.

The match was held on for 15 minutes before a replacement referee took over and gave the player, who could face a heavy punishment, a red card.
