Gateway to Okinawa presents the first annual All Okinawa Karate and Kobudo seminar series
Why: We at Gateway To Okinawa always want to help spread Okinawan karate/kobudo to the world. This series will help in that goal. This will be the largest undertaking of this sort with the highest caliber of teachers ever assembled. The teachers have been chosen based on their particular skill sets. Our focus this time is bunkai (application) and traditional kata (forms). Our hope is to show the traditional forms in one session and then the applications to those forms in a follow up session. This will not be endless repetitions of basics, as is sometimes the case, but instead a week long, fully integrated curriculum has been produced that would serve any level of martial knowledge or Okinawan specific knowledge. We feel this approach highlights and explains the use of kata in traditional Okinawan karate. Also covered in this series is kobudo, hojo undo, historical tours and lectures. There is something for everyone in these seminars.
Learning Okinawan karate just through a series of seminars is not possible, it requires years of study and training. Through these seminars our hope is that some of the participants will become members of dojo here in Okinawa. If through your trainings in these seminars you find a teacher that you feel resonates with you, we recommend that you approach them for further training. The schedule is such that one could train at private dojo in the evenings. This of course is at the teacher’s discretion.
