Trying to get dual core technology but I am not sure if my mobo would support this while yes my mobo is a 775 and supports pentium D it does not say what series it supports 8xx -9xx etc any help on finding a dual core that this mobo would support would be appreciated.

It's been proven before. :D ASUS is the best you can buy. They've been making motherboards as long as ATI and Nvidia have been making graphics cards. For the Intel sockets and chipsets also: any motherboard that has P55 or H55 in the model name of the board, it can run a Xeon processor, remember that.

I'm running a Xeon X3440 on the P7H55-D EVO and it's running smoothly as can be. :D

I have a X2 CPU to upgrade my ASUS 939 MB. I am certain that it is compatible.

What I don't know is, what will windows XP do? Will it care that I upgraded the processor?

windows will not care if you upgrade cpu but if its from single core to more cores it may only use one core to you reinstall

The ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard came with the HP Pavillion Media Center TV m8020n Desktop PC that I purchased in 2007.

Regarding processor upgrades, I have discovered it does NOT work with all Core 2 Duo E6x00 processors, even though they specify socket 775 and FSB 1066MHz.

My computer came from the factory with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6420 @ 2.13GHz, L2 4MB, FSB 1066MHz, LGA775.

This motherboard will NOT upgrade to E6800 @ 3.33GHz (with other specs same as above), even though the motherboard specs say "any E6x00 series"). I have tried it -- the computer powered on, the CD/DVD drives opened and closed, but the computer would not boot up and the hard drives would not spin, and of course the screen received no video input. I doubt it was insufficient power, as the power supply was recently upgraded to support a video card requiring more power. Everything returned to normal when I put the original processor back in. (Guess it's time to sell the E6800 processor on eBay, as newegg does not exchange or accept returns on opened processor boxes.)

I have read on other forums that the best you can do (if you want an Intel processor) for this motherboard would be the following, but I have not tried it yet: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6600 @ 2.4GHz, L2 4MB

I am not familiar with other processor brands. I welcome any helpful commentary.
