Phil Schiller official announcement that iPhone 5 is powered by A6 SoC was devoid of any meaningful information. It had no information on number of cores or clock frequency. Other websites just relayed this information without digging any further. Apple did not divulge any information about the clock frequency, number of cores, details of CPU or GPU core and the memory bandwidth.
