Hair Loss and Propecia (My Personal Experience)

By my mid-twenties, I started to notice that a lot of hair fall after I take a shower. After a few months the hair on top of my head (my crown) was slowly but surely thinning. To make matters worse my hairline was also receding. I was developing that inward curve that signified the loss of my younger years!

I Tried Everything

First, I thought using shampoo that helped thicken the hair was the solution. The problem was, regardless of how thick my hair strands are, it kept falling off anyway. Next I tried the expensive Minoxidil treatment that is said to be effective for MOST individuals. The good news is that my hair stopped falling, but my bald plate still lacks the thick luscious hair of my youth. Would you believe I also tried wearing an expensive toupee? I personally thought I looked good, but my friends and those who met me for the first time noticed the wig. So it had to come off!

Baldness and Low Self Esteem

My self esteem was shot to the ground. Heck, I could have a nice car but my head was still bald as a baby’s bottom. It came to a point that looking at myself in the mirror was painful. I realized I look way older than my age.

I was Introduced to Propecia

On one of the blog sites I frequent I heard about Propecia. With nothing to lose, and considering the medication is relatively affordable I tried it out. First I consulted with a physician about Propecia. After a basic medical history check my doctor prescribed me the medicine. He specifically noted that I should get Finasteride with the brand name Propecia. If only other brands were available I was told to go to another drug store

My Dosage

For six (6) months I have been taking Propecia daily. My dosage, as prescribed is 1 mg a day. Today I am proud to say that my crown is almost back to its former glory. My hairline has stopped receding and if I am not mistaken that annoying inward curve is slowly filling out. Every day in the shower I find that only an acceptable amount of hair gets washed down the drain. And every time I look in the mirror I cannot help but run my hand over my hair and smile.

Incidentally my doctor told me to continue using Propecia on a regular basis. And that if I experience any ill effects I should check up with him. But so far I feel great and I have yet to experience some of those side effects they say are experienced at most by 2% of users.

Other Brands and Generic Brands

Incidentally on my third month of use the store I bought Propecia from, ran out of supply. I was forced to use another brand of Finasteride. A few days after, I noticed a little bit more hair fall than usual. I told this to my doctor and he insisted I immediately switch back to Propecia. This is because the enzymes maybe the same but the formulation of other brands as well as the concentration is a lot lower. Additionally my doctor told me I could purchase Propecia online if none were available in the drugstore.
