Nikkei Tops 12,000 1st Time In 4.5 Years

TOKYO (NQN)--The Nikkei Stock Average surpassed the 12,000 mark for the first time since Sept. 29, 2008, in early trade Thursday, after the Dow Jones industrial average reached an all-time high for the second straight day overnight.

The Nikkei Stock Average opened up 104 points, or 0.8%, at 12,037.

The yen's decline against the dollar is also lifting investor sentiment.

Exporters are leading the way as upbeat investors buy a broad range of issues.
