About the EasyLI Done!™ Series Tutorials

All EasyLI Done!™ Series Tutorials are designed to accomplish specific tasks on a step-by-step basis!
From connecting two computers together to share files using a crossover cable to setting up a secured wireless network connection, these online tutorials are extremely easy to follow. View free networking information here. Although all tutorials were put together with the novice user (beginner) in mind, advanced users will find a few tricks to put to use also, such as 'How to Force Windows to Shutdown' when it just won't shutdown normally.
Before downloading or using any content or software on this site, please read the End User License Agreement (EULA).

Did you know? Almost all wireless routers are setup for unsecure wireless network connections at the time of purchase.

Did you know? You should never connect your cable or dsl modem directly to your computer, without having a firewall setup. If your Internet connection is setup using this method, you are inviting Ad-Ware, Spy-Ware and worst of all - viruses into your computer! It would not be long before you start experiencing disturbing pop-ups and computer malfunctions. Worst case scenario: Identity theft.

How to Connect Two or More Windows® XP Computers Together Using a Router to Connect to the Internet and Share Files Between the Connected Computers (Part 1, Step 28)

Troubleshooting a Wireless Connection:

Problem: Unable to establish a wireless connection to your network

Symptoms:
1. Red x on the wireless network icon. Wireless Network Connection: Not connected.
2. PopUp: Unable to connect to wireless network.
3. PopUp: Unable to connect to preferred wireless network. Unable to connect to preferred wireless network
4. Mouse-over the system tray wireless network icon displays "Not connected". Wireless Network Connection: Not connected.
5. ipconfig/all displays "Media state: Media disconnected".
6. Clicking on "Repair" and getting the message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Connecting to the wireless network. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.". Repair Wireless Network Connection

Most likely cause(s):
Incorrect wireless network settings - one or more of the following settings are incorrect:
1. Network Authentication. Should be set to 'Open' for unsecured wireless connections.
2. Data encryption. Should be set to 'Disabled' for unsecured wireless connections.
3. Network key (sometimes called a WEP key). In plain english, it's just a password used to access a router. Should be blank for unsecured wireless connections.

Other possible causes:
1. Firewall - improperly configured (not allowing communication between the devices or access to the Internet). Make sure Internet programs are not being blocked by the firewall.
2. Router - improperly configured (not allowing communication between the devices). Repeat steps 1 - 5.
3. Cable modem or DSL modem - improperly connected to the Router (wrong port). Repeat steps 1 - 5.

Now that you are able to get on the Internet using both wired and wireless connections, let's move on to configuring all computers to be in the same Workgroup to allow easy file sharing between your networked computers!
