Default How do we call the 'arm wrestle handshake’ between tennis players? Still a handshake?

When did the 'arm wrestle handshake’ all begin? I remember players used to shake hand the conventional way even they are friends on top of being opponent, like Edberg and Lendl.

Nowadays the ‘arm wrestle’ seem to be the norm, some even arm wrestle with the umpires. Only when the players don’t know/like each other too much shake hand the old way, like Roddick/Hewitt and Coria/Massu at the US open this year and last year

Anyone know/care?

I'm not entirely certain what you mean, but i guess you mean when people slap hands together with their forearms up instead of offering an oldschool handshake. Just a sign of the times I think. It's a mates thing, you'd only do it with someone you like, I do it with my friends too.

In the old days the winner would sometimes jump over the net and aggressively give the other guy a handshake and a pat on the back, so at least they don't do that anymore.

Is this a little too literal? I don't know if Dmitry's kidding around or if Jarkko did something to piss him off.

He got fined for that. I forgot what happened, but he was angry at the umpire and it was definitely out of line.

Aren'tyou thinking of that scary handshake where Tursonov grabbed the chair's hand and wouldn't let go of it? Wasn't that at Wimbledon?

It was his match at Wimbledon against Nieminen that he got fined. The chair was making some bad calls and Tursonov hit a ball at him, hitting the underside of the chair itself. He got a point penalty, and Nieminen went on to win the game and eventually the match. When Tursonov went to shake the chair's hand, he pulled on it and waved his finger in the chair's face. He was fined 7500 dollars.

For the original topic...I have no clue what that handshake is called, if it's called anything special.

i know what you're talking about, but i dont know of any name to it...

its basically what most of the players do to greet and congratulate each other with, at the end of a match with their opponents before handshaking the chair umpire's hand as well

I thought having a strong hand shake determined if you're masculine or not.
