Sergio Garcia played in the U.S. for the first time in 2013 with a lot of new TaylorMade equipment.

Coinciding with TaylorMade's official introduction of its R1 driver at the Northern Trust Open, Garcia had an R1 in the bag. The driver can be adjusted in three ways to customize loft, face angle and shot shape.

"I hit my driver pretty good, obviously some drives here and there that I would like to hit a little bit better," said Garcia after a first-round 65. "Overall I managed to hit some nice chips and hit some nice putts here and there. So very pleased with the round overall."

The Spaniard also played a 15-degree RBZ Stage 2 fairway wood, RBZ Stage 2 Rescue club, RocketBladez Tour irons (3-PW) and the Lethal golf ball.

All together, 31 players in L.A. used the R1, making it the No.1 driver model used at the tournament.
