Buddhist Group Wants to Brand City Park

San Francisco's cash-strapped Recreation and Park Department is looking for creative ways to make money. One local group has a $180,000 idea for the department. But is the price worth it?
The Buddhist network Soka Gokkai International is offering the City a lot of money as long as it agrees to name Franklin Square Park’s gate after the group's founder Daisaku Ikeda, the San Francisco Examiner reported.
Ikeda is the president and founder of the Buddhist group that has millions of members in hundreds of countries across the world.
The branding proposal is on the agenda for Thursday's department commission meeting. If the commission approves the gift, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors would still have to give their blessing to the plan.
