i done my friends with powder bleach and it turned out really well, lifted if from a medium brown colour to a really lovely blonde colour and her hairs in really good condition. we done it twice with 3 weeks or so inbetween but only left it in for 30-40 mins and not the full hour/hour and a half :)

Try just buying the developer like 40 vol. and mix it with conditioner and put that on your hair for like 30mins-1 hr. It should lighten it some. You could also try using like a TON of that sun-in stuff or experiment with honey lightening. Good luck!

id recommend going to the hairdressers personally but if youre willing to take the risk of it going wrong then you can do it yourself :)
if youre going from dark hair you wont get that colour straight away, it takes time.

please please PLEASE go to a stylist. There are so many things that can go horribly wrong and I always hate seeing a bad blonde dye job on the street.

I went from dark brown to platinum blonde, and actually gave my stylist a pic of taylor momsen to match my hair to. It was the longest 9 hours of my life. What happens is, if you have any previous colour in your hair, you have to get it stripped/removed. This is especially difficult if you had your hair box-dyed because the chemicals are much more unstable. Then, you have to bleach it, then you have to tone it to the right shade you want (silver-blonde, ash blonde, platinum blonde, etc.)
here's a before and after:
i love love love being blonde. it's absolutely wonderful.

if you want it to you by yourself, i strongly recommend you to do it in a few steps. lighter tone, lighter tone, lighter tone. it's easier for your to cope with that than a radical change but you're certainly not doing your hair any good either way.

It looks cute on you but i want more of a white blonde, would it it hurt my hair more to go lighter even if done the right way?

It all depends on the product your stylist uses. Mine uses a very gentle bleach and toner so my hair, thankfully, isn't fried. My hair is still as soft as it was when I was a brunette, so I'm lucky. And I was an even lighter shade of blonde a few months ago and it was perfectly fine. My stylist uses Loreal Professional products, so I hope that helps somewhat.
Be wary, though. Most stylists are afraid to dye brown hair blonde all in one go. It took me a while to find a stylist who would do it. Instead they'll recommend doing it in stages with highlights. Most are just scared of messing up and causing a lot of breakage. But, I reallllllly wanted my hair to "have an impact" so I wanted it done all in one day. When done right, though, it causes very little damage.
Just do some research on some salons in your area. If you see a great head of blonde hair ask where they got it done. That's the easiest way to find a great stylist.
Also, blonde hair isn't cheap. So make sure you can keep up with the root touch-ups because dying blonde hair back to brown is just as tough as dying brown hair blonde (blonde doesn't hold colour very well).
Good luck, though! Blonde is awesome.

It cost me $350 in total, and I pay $150 every 6 weeks for my roots. It's painful to part with that much cash, but it's definitely worth it. You'll look great blonde!
