Nikkei Ends Near 3-Yr High; Overseas Bargain Hunters Step In
TOKYO (NQN)--Tokyo stocks closed higher for the third straight day Thursday, with the Nikkei Stock Average rising 24.71 points, or 0.22%, to end the day at 11,138.66, its highest point since April 27, 2010.
The index nearly fell below 11,000 at one point due to yen's rise. But overseas investors began buying stocks on the dips toward the market close on hopes for future gains.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (9104), which plunged at the start of the afternoon session, reversed course, and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. (5401) and other steelmakers gained further ground.
