DJ: Abe Says Person Who Can Take Bold Monetary Action Best For Next BOJ Chief
TOKYO--Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Sunday that he desires "a person who can carry out bold monetary steps" as the next governor of the Bank of Japan and will discuss the matter with experts.
Speaking on a nationally broadcast TV talk show, Mr. Abe said he "would like to consider who is the right person after getting advice from a meeting on Jan. 15 with experts," including Yale University Prof. Koichi Hamada.
Mr. Abe has said he will bring in a new BOJ governor more in line with his views than current Gov. Masaaki Shirakawa, when Mr. Shirakawa's term expires in April.
