I love sitting around and scanning my favorite news sites before work on rainy weekday mornings.
So excuse me while my eyes pop out of my head when I read newsonjapan‘s link to Yomiuri quotes like “The Diet has begun debate on bills to revise the law banning child prostitution and child pornography” or “[The Current Law] does not forbid possession of child pornography for personal use“
Wait, did you just use the word “debate” in the above sentence, cause I’m not really seeing a debate here.
Am I in the right country?
Listen, pornography in Japan is fucking bizarre. If you want to see girls picking through each others’ vomit, eels in vaginas, or intensely strange goo porn, this is the country for you.
I’m not a giant fan but I’m not a fucking Jesuit either. While prone to bouts of extreme wildness, when things get to the bedroom, I’m actually pretty happy with the old school shit.
Call me crazy.
It must be that Catholic upbringing that convinced me that sex was evil unless making babies (I got over that baggage pretty early in life). I don’t have to wear a wacky puppy costume to get off and I’d rather just get into the whole normal sex thing than bring out shackles and chains and whips.
At the end of the day, tying someone up’s just a bit too much of a hassle for me.
So I’ve come to the realization that Japan’s off the charts in that department. Whatever floats your boat, salaryman…

Japan is not Thailand, India, or some other fucked up 2nd or 3rd world country that sells children into slavery so that sex tourists can get their jollies off on an epic sex tour. It’s a G8 country that should be holding itself to a higher standard than that.
So are you fucking kidding me? It’s legal to possess child pornography here as long as you’re just using it for yourself?
Both parties are submitting bills now, but there are major debates over bringing it up to international standards.

It’s ok, just take deep breathes. I’m sure they’ll be able to get beyond partisan politics and have a perfectly rational vote. After all, it’s just a common sense bill that no one in their right mind would ever oppose…

This has a lot less to do with supporting the rights of pedophiles and more to do with being indifferent to the fate of children who are being used and abused. You don’t see other countries fetishizing young girls in the same grand fashion that you see it in Japan (the schoolgirl uniforms and whatnot). Sure, you see the odd foreign porn movie with 30-year-old women in Catholic school girl uniforms, but it’s not omnipresent like it is here.
This is all pretty much an off-shoot of the way in which women are objectified in Japan and the sex industry being populated by Asians other than Japanese. That is, they know children or teens are being abused, but they also know the vast majority are not Japanese so they don’t much care.
They are debating this because the definition of CP is vague:
(3) The term “child pornography” as used in this Act shall mean photographs, recording media containing electromagnetic records (any record which is produced by electronic, magnetic or any other means unrecognizable by natural perceptive functions and is used for data-processing by a computer; the same shall apply hereinafter) or any other medium which depicts the pose of a child, which falls under any of the following items, in a visible way:
一 児童を相手方とする又は児童による性交又は性交類似行為に係る児童の姿態
(i) Any pose of a child engaged in sexual intercourse or any conduct similar to sexual intercourse;
二 他人が児童の性器等を触る行為又は児童が他人の性器等を触る行為に係る児童の姿態であって性欲を興奮させ又は刺激するもの
(ii) Any pose of a child having his or her genital organs touched by another person or of a child touching another person’s genital organs, which arouses or stimulates the viewer’s sexual desire;
三 衣服の全部又は一部を着けない児童の姿態であって性欲を興奮させ又は刺激するもの
(iii) Any pose of a child wholly or partially naked, which arouses or stimulates the viewer’s sexual desire.
Note part iii. How do think you think the police will find out if it “stimulates the viewer’s sexual desire.”? Mind reading? Oh yeah, forced confessions.

I think it’s far from indifferent if it’s fetishized, and while I’m sure they think they’re above it, it’s obviously a world issue that Japan has (once again) fallen behind on.
I don’t think it’s just non-Japanese either…There is a lot of bad stuff that goes unreported because of guilt, honor, etc, etc… Who knows how much occurs really.

Anyway, at the end of the day, I wish I could say that the idea of “police forced confessions” were the main argument in not approving the bill, but if that was the case, it would make a hell of a lot more sense to tackle “forced police confessions” as an issue.

forced police confessions – is not a problem ? Have you ever been in trouble with police ? I guess no and you seem to think police are honest and law abiding always. The real solution is to first fix the definition of child porn and then pass the law. What is wrong with Japan ? Are all law in US good ?
