When starting the HCG diet many people are confused over the phases that are involved. There is a lot of talk about these phases but unfortunately not all of the information is the same. One of the main reasons for this is because people are referring to two different versions of the diet. The first version is the original diet that was introduced by Dr. Simeons. The second version was introduced by Kevin Trudeau. He is the author of the book The diet ”They” don’t want you to know about. It has been credited by many sources as making HCG diet drops and the HCG diet popular. Because Trudeau’s book is so popular many people follow the phases that are outlined in that book.

One of the biggest differences between the two is how they start. Trudeau suggests that you start the HCG diet with a phase of prep and detox. There have been many different detox products suggested for this phase. There is wide debate as to whether this phase is necessary or not. Since it was not included in Dr. Simeons original diet many people choose to skip it. Others have stated that it has launched their weight loss with the HCG diet drops. With all of the reviews it is difficult to tell which one is correct. The best suggestion is to do what feels right for you in the beginning. If you choose to follow a detox before starting your HCG drops you can. If you do not feel that a detox would help you then feel free to skip it.

The next phase in the HCG diet program will either be phase one or phase two depending on whether you count the detox phase. The most important part of this phase for many people is referred to as the loading phase. You are supposed to eat high fat foods for the first two days that you start to take your HCG drops. This phase helps many people want to start a diet and eat healthier.  After the first two days you will start your 500 calorie diet. This will last as little as 21 days and a maximum of 38 days while taking your HCG diet drops.  During this phase is when you will lose the bulk of the weight while you are on the diet. If you have less weight to lose you may choose to do only 21 days on this phase.

The next phase of the HCG diet lasts 3 days. Normally during this time you stop taking your HCG drops but you continue to stay on the 500 calorie diet. The three days will allow your system to clear out the rest of the HCG diet drops.  After these three days you will move on to a partially restricted diet. You can eat whatever you would like to with a few exceptions. You are not supposed to eat any starches or any sugars during this phase. If you are searching for recipes these would be listed as phase 3 recipes. This normally lasts for three weeks. Remember you are not taking any HCG drops in this phase.

The final phase of the HCG diet you return to a normal routine and diet. You can eat whatever you want to. You should still keep up and exercise routines so that you can keep your weight off. If you are planning on starting another round of the HCG diet drops you need to wait three weeks to start.  After you wait three weeks you can start over on the first phase of the diet. You will take the HCG drops the same way that you did in the first cycle. You can repeat the phases and cycles until you reach your ideal weight. If you join a support board you may find many people that have completely multiple cycles. There may be many reasons like adding holiday weight or simply not losing the maximum amount the first time.

Since the reported weight loss on the HCG diet is up to three pounds a day many people do not need to do multiple cycles of the diet. This is normally true for anyone who needs to lose thirty pounds or less. Anyone who needs to lose over thirty pounds may need to do two cycles to complete their weight loss. Or you may want to do the longer 38 day cycle during the second phase. Remember that it is safe to do another cycle as long as you wait the three weeks after your last phase. So if you do not lose all of the weight that you want on the first cycle do not be discouraged. Everyone loses weight at different rates. You simply wait three weeks and you can do a new cycle.
