There are different dosages available for the drug. It is available in 25, 50, and 100 mg. It is also available in either tablet or oral jelly. It is best to take the pill or jelly at least one hour before sexual contact. It is also better to take this on an empty stomach and without taking any alcohol. Food, especially fatty ones, and alcohol reduces the potency of the drug.

It is a common misconception that the drug allows a man to achieve a full erection without any outside help. In an erection, there are certain chemicals that are released in the body that allows the penis to become engorged with blood thus it becomes erect. Sildenafil citrate does not have any control over these bodily hormones. However, it allows the hormones to stay in the penis for around four to six hours, which makes it possible for a man diagnosed with erectile dysfunction to enjoy sexual intercourse again.

The effects of the drug will be felt in 30 to 50 minutes after taking it. It is best to schedule the act about an hour after the man takes the medication. This will allow maximum potency of the drug as well as a good build up to the sexual act. Also, it is not advisable for one to take more than one dosage of the drug per day.
