26 November 2012 / İBRAHİM KARAGÜL YENİ ŞAFAK,
An Iranian diplomat I recently spoke to at a D-8 summit told me that they believe Syrian President Bashar al-Assad can no longer stay in power and that they “want him to land with a parachute, while Turkey wants to push him off the top of a building.”
Can we say that even Iran, the country that has been giving support to Syria no matter what, has lost its hope for Assad and is becoming ready for a change in the Syrian regime? Why not? Russia and Iran, of course, are aware of the new state of Syria. But they are afraid that the new regime that would be established in the post-Assad era will force them to remove their bases in this country.
