Qatar’s 2022 World Cup Preparations and ongoing Projects

Once Qatar won the World Cup 2022, they have started planning to finish the projects for the World Cup on time.

There is now a need to begin moving from creating concepts to articulating touchable plans. The complex ideas such as the air-conditioned stadiums and the metro networks have to be shift into concrete projects.

 Qatar’s World Cup preparations and ongoing projects need a vision of quality, sustainability and efficiency to ensure that roadways, stadiums and complexes stick on to the highest international standards.

 QSAS (Qatar Sustainability Assessment System) and QGBC (Qatar Green Building Council) are currently promoting standards when QSAS aims at creating a sustainable urban environment to reduce the environmental impacts while satisfying local community needs.

The first stadium for the 2022 World Cup that will be with cooling technology will start to be built before seven years of the World Cup. The purpose is to practice first the host of a major football tournament by 2020 as a hence to prepare Qatar for World Cup in 2022.

Ministry of Environment will begin as soon as possible applying a five-year strategic plan to execute the objective of proper environmental management, as identified in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016.

The Qatar’s Integrated Railway Project isthe most fascinating projects, which will be made to connect all the twelve proposed sport stadiums. The project consists of a total of 350km rail tracks (170km flat level rail tracks, 70km elevation, 110km tunnels) and almost 100 stations. The  expected cost is over USD 35bn (QR130bn).

The trains should have the capability to reach the speed of 350 km/h, as it's planned to include a long distance passenger rail, 100km from Doha to Saudi Arabia, a high speed rail, 180km from Doha to Bahrain, a freight network of over 325km.

Another project will include Lusail Light Rail, West Bay People Mover, Education City People Mover and the Doha Metro. The goal is to have the railway system fully functioning for the 2022 World Cup, it has is to be operating and ready in 2020 for the testing, the commissioning and to have some in-service experience. The Qatar railway project, including the metro and GCC network consists of about 19 construction packages of USD1bn (QR3.65bn) are scheduled to be awarded until the end of next year. USD100bn (QR365bn)  is the total projected investment of the GCC railway project over the next 15 years.
