Things to Know about Levitra before using it
It is a stupid, yet common mistake that some people do - they ignore the prescriptions or details inserted in the drug they purchased. They do not know that those small details can help them avoid hazards. Reading instructions when taking medicines is important, and in the case of medicines for ED, this is very true. ED or erectile dysfunction is a medical condition wherein a man cannot achieve erection, or maintain it for long though he is sexually stimulated. It is also known as impotence.
A lot of men around the world are having this problem and one of the best solutions recommended by doctors is Levitra. It is a PD5 inhibitor which works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing blood to flow into it. The blood flow in the penis causes it to erect. Now let’s go back to reading the prescription. Drugs for erectile dysfunction like this cannot be taken without a prescription from a health practitioner, as they need to evaluate and assess your medical records first before they can determine the proper dosage for you. I am not a health practitioner, but based on studies, here are some of the things that you should know before taking Levitra.
Health Conditions
People with heart diseases need to take extra caution when taking drugs for erectile dysfunction. The medications for this condition can have negative reactions with PD5 inhibitors, which can cause sudden heart attack, seizures, and chest pains. Those with vision problems also need a doctor’s advice because this drug can aggravate the problem. Your doctor may limit your intake (depending on the severity of your condition) of the drug to 72 hours apart.
Other health conditions that you should tell your doctor if he is prescribing you this drug are the following:
• Kidney and liver problems
• Stomach ulcers
• Inconsistent blood pressure
• Stroke and seizures
• Leukemia and other blood cell-related problems
• Bleeding problems and hemophilia
• Hearing difficulties
• Peyronie’s disease (deformity of the penis)
Other Medications
If you have other health problems, you should inform your doctor of the medications that you are taking. A lot of drugs in the market can negatively interact with Levitra, thus putting its users into danger. For instance, nitrate-based medicines used to treat heart diseases should not be used along with this drug because it can suddenly drop your blood pressure, which is very hazardous. Other medications that were known to have negative reaction with this drug are antibiotics like erythromycin and clarithromycin, anti-fungal medications, conivaptan, some antidepressant like nefazodone, and HIV/AIDS medicine.
Dosage
Overdosage of this drug is dangerous. Only your doctor can advise you of the proper dosage after they evaluate your medical history. Your existing medical conditions affect the dosage, so you cannot adjust or change it whenever you wish. This drug is usually taken at maximum of once per day, and is not to be used daily but only when need. Strength also varies from 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. Lower dosages are usually given as this drug is very strong compared with Viagra.
