What is jusched.exe in Startup?

If you have been lucky enough, you have already noticed jusched.exe process in the Task Manager and gotten rid of it. Not because it’s a potential virus of some sort rather it’s a scheduler for Java Updater that uses memory for almost no reason except to check for updates only once a whole month.

Your system does not need any process for these updates since Windows already have a built in feature. It’s not like your system absolutely need these updates that too through this process. With no real reason for it to stay, it just seems like a memory waster. It’s as good as gone.

To end the process, open Control Panel and click Java. (Vista users will find it under Additional Options).

In the Java Panel, go to the Update tab and look for “Check for Updates Automatically”. Uncheck this option.

It will show you a warning that you won’t be protected for a month’s time if somebody breaches Java security:

Java Update - Warning

Just click the never check option. In case of Windows Vista, you will receive an additional warning that it isn’t certified to disable the update schedule. Forget that and click “This Control Panel works correctly”.

If you think you will miss out some important update to deal with Control Panel issues then you always have the option of using the Task scheduler instead. It comes built-in for Windows. Otherwise, just skip the next step if Java updates aren’t really the main concern for you.

Schedule Task for Java Update Check (Optional)

Go to Start Menu and type in Task Scheduler in the search box. When it pops up, click on the option stating “Create Basic Task”.

Create Basic Task

Select a month and date for the update check by following as the wizard says. When you reach “Start a Program”, use this as the path for the scheduling. Alter it according to your version of Java. The main thing is running the jucheck.exe in Java directory.

C:Program FilesJavajre1.6.0_01binjucheck.exe

Start a Program

When you have programmed the task to run once in a month or whatever time duration you like, this dialogue box will appear when an update is available or the one stating there are no new versions.
