We get quite a few emails about the jusched.exe process and various other processes that you may find in task manager. It can be alarming to see a strange process running, but most are safe. If you have any doubts, just search online for the process name or you can view process information with Total PC Audit.
Anyway, back to the jusched.exe process. This process is completely safe. It is a process used by the Java Update Scheduler. The process checks if there are any updates to the Java platform you have installed.
While jusched.exe is a safe process, you may want to stop it to save memory consumption. The process runs in the background all the time and is not really necessary. There are not that many updates to Java, so you may not want this process running at all times, using up your valuable memory.
If you want to save a bit of memory and turn off the Java Update Scheduler, here is how you can do it.
Open the Control Panel in Windows and click on “Java”. In the Java Control Panel, click on the “Update” tab.
To stop the jusched.exe process, just uncheck “Check for Updates Automatically”. This will stop the auto-updater from running.
You can then run the updates manually by clicking the “Update Now” button from the Java Control Panel. You can also schedule a task to run the Java updates every month or so. We will discuss that in a future post.
Note: If you do disable the auto updates, you can be exposed for a longer duration to any security problems or bugs in Java.
