Syria reportedly stopped 11 buses packed with Turkish pilgrims who were returning from the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca on Tuesday.
Syrian security forces stopped the buses in the southern province of Deraa, right outside the city of Deraa.
The incident will likely put further strain on already battered relations between Turkey and war-torn Syria.
Last year a number of Turkish buses carrying pilgrims came under gunfire from Syrian troops. No one died in the incident.
