Some Side Effects of Levitra
Men who have long suffered sexual impotence which manifests itself as erectile dysfunction has now a renewed hope for sexual satisfaction in the form of a drug. Since the introduction of the pioneer drug Viagra in 1998, the field of medicine has developed two other drugs that effectively treat erectile dysfunction. One of these two drugs Levitra, which is approved by the Food and Drugs Authority. Having the generic name of Vardenafil, this drug is a PDE5 inhibitor which basically works by increasing the blood flow into the penis. This increased blood flow into the penis will make it erect and hard, ready for sexual intercourse.
People have a common misconception about this ED treatment drug primarily manufactured by Bayer. They believe that this drug is an effective aphrodisiac that would immediately arouse one’s sexual desires just by taking one dose of this drug. However, this is pure myth. In order to feel the full effects of Levitra, one has to first get sexual stimuli. The moment the person becomes aroused, then that will be the time when the drug will do its work. Basically, this drug affects the release of chemical hormones that would relax the muscles of the shaft of the penis in order to let blood flow freely through it. When the penis is filled with blood, then it will become hard and erect. This hardening of the penis will last a few hours. However, if one experiences a prolonged erection for more than four hours, it is advisable to immediately see a doctor. A prolonged erection could lead to the damaging of the penis.
Aside from this, Levitra also has some other side effects that one has to take note of. One of which are allergic reactions. Some of these reactions are difficulty in breathing, swelling of lips, tongue, face or throat. If one experiences one of these allergic reactions, then it is highly advisable to contact one’s doctor.
Another side effect is when during sexual intercourse, one feels dizzy, nauseous, or feeling some numb or pain in one’s chest, arms, jaw or neck. Again, if one feels these side effects it is highly recommended to call one’s doctor to ensure one’s health is not severely endangered. The following are some of the more serious side effects of this drug: convulsions, seizures, vision loss, arrhythmia, shortness of breath, painful penis erections, chest pains and dizziness or nausea.
Other less serious side effects are the following: back pain, memory problems, stomach aches, redness in one’s face and neck, headaches and stuffy noses. These are not exhaustive lists of side effects. There can be other side effects that may manifest whenever one would take this drug. If there are some irregularities right after one takes a dose of this drug, the most prudent thing to do is call one’s doctor and ask for advice. While this drug may finally solve one’s physiological sexual inadequacies, there could be some complications that may need some medical attention. Ignoring these side effects may lead to more severe complications.
