How to Convert CSV to XPS

To translate calculations from a CSV file to XPS format, download a free converter tool.

Many spreadsheet programs use the comma-separated values, or CSV, format to import and export data. CSV lacks a set format, so although most of the information will transfer over without a problem, differences may exist in the source file once it is opened by another program. Similar to a PDF, Microsoft's XPS Document viewer is one of those programs. XPS is based on Extensible Markup Language, or XML, and is available on various Apple-based programs, Internet Explorer version 6 and above, and a number of Microsoft operating system platforms.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the free Convert XLS software from the Softinterface website, and install it. Download the Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS add-in from the Microsoft website and install it as well.

    • 2

Open Convert XLS. Under "Select Action to Do," select the "Convert Files" radio button.

    • 3

Highlight your file's original CSV format in the drop-down box under "Select Original File/Folder to Convert." Click the icons to the right to locate the file that you want to convert.

    • 4

Select the XPS conversion file format from the "Convert the File Format" drop-down box. Click the "Add" button to add the source file and use "Target File(s)" to specify the file's destination.

    • 5

Click "Convert" to begin the conversion process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the option to convert to XPS is not available under the "Convert the File Format" menu, click the "Use Microsoft Excel" radio button instead of "Convert Files."
