If you are in a steady relationship and thinking about the possibility of getting married, then you have definitely considered the option of buying a diamond ring for your girlfriend. Of course, you probably know next to nothing about diamonds and, trust us, there is a lot to know. Once you go out diamond-hunting, you will see that there is such a variety that it will make your head spin.

While we could go on and on about everything diamond-related, we certainly don’t have enough time for that now, so we will only focus on one aspect of purchasing diamonds, the option of getting a vintage, antique ring.

Why are vintage rings making a comeback? There are many explanations for this and we know history repeats itself but it’s also true that these rings are romantic and reminiscent of older, kinder times. Girls simply love to think of the old love story that accompanied the ring and this is why getting a vintage diamond is always a solid, romantic solution.

When you go out looking for the ring, know that there are many styles, different cuts and colors. It is likely you will have a lot of considering ahead of you, especially if you take into account that the ring itself could be made of gold, white gold or platinum. Whichever ring you go for, make sure it is an actual vintage ring, uniquely made for someone. You don’t want to buy some fake crap and have your fiancée bump into someone with a similar ring the next day. You should always strive to make it truly worthwhile.

The most traditional vintage rings are usually just solitaire, with a single round diamond on a gold or white gold band. However, this option is frequently not imaginative or ‘shiny’ enough for the modern times so it is likely you will not settle for the simplest option if you have the money to purchase something more extravagant. Recently most rings have been made from white gold and platinum, while the stones have a wide range of cuts, from the standard round, to pear, princess, assher, heart, cushion and radiant.

Still, the most important thing you have to know when buying a diamond is exactly what will determine the price of the second-hand jewel you will be getting. This is always determined through the four Cs of diamonds. Those are Carat, Cut, Clarity and Color. While it might not appear that way, the cut is the most important factor because it determines the reflective quality of the stone. Then you have the carat weight, which is the stone and the weight of the diamond. Clarity is determined through purity, because pure diamonds are clearer than those that were made with interference from some other elements. Finally, the color. While most diamonds are transparent, some diamonds may come in various colors. The rarer the color, the more expensive the diamond will be.

We don’t know if diamonds really are any girl’s best friend, but we do know that an engagement ring with a diamond is probably the most special present you will ever give your girlfriend. In all honesty, how can it not be? You must have been together for a [...] Continue Reading…
