All you need to know about Ativan

Ativan, also called Lorazepam is a prescription-only drug used to help people deal with different types of anxiety attacks, depression and panic attacks. It belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines, which calm your central nervous system. Ativan and other benzodiazepines do this by increasing the production of certain neurochemicals in your brain.

Your doctor will most likely prescribe it for you in the form of a tablet or pill. These should be taken with a glass of water either before or after you’ve ate. How much Ativan should you take is a decision that your doctor must make by carefully considering how difficult your anxiety problems and symptoms are, but usually this is two times per day. Do not increase the dosage before consulting with your doctor first.

Ativan can be used to treat other problems, like: treating symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, it can be given to people suffering from insomnia or to patients who are currently undergoing a chemotherapy in order to prevent nausea, vomiting and seizures, which are a common side effects of chemotherapy. The usage of Ativan for anxiety unrelated symptoms is called “out of label” usage, and should not be done without talking to a medical professional first.

Ativan is quite free of any side effects, although not completely. Some people may experience a slight headache, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness or feeling of sleepiness. These side effects are not a cause for concern and should go away after a day or two. It is the symptoms such as: losing memory, confusion, mood and mental changes, like: anger or depression, as well as swelling of face, mouth or lips that are a much greater cause for alarm. These symptoms call for immediate medical assistance and stop taking Ativan. Still, it is very good to know that compared to other anxiety medications, Ativan is quite side effects free.

The drug can also be highly addictive, especially if used in higher dosages (another reason to stay within the dosage prescribed by your doctor) and if taken by people who are prone to drug abuse. If you feel that you are becoming dependable on it, do not try to quit taking Ativan at once. Work out a plan with your doctor to slowly reduce your intake of this drug.

If you have taken too much Ativan (the maximum allowed single dosage is 2 mg), and are suffering from confusion, loss of consciousness or inability to remain awake, call an ambulance or have someone take you there by car, immediately.

Ativan is freely sold both off line and online. It can be gotten without a prescription, but my advice is that you still consult your doctor before deciding to take it.  Make sure that the source your buying it from is reliable, though. You can get a good bargain on Ativan and still get the real deal if you search thoroughly.

It is a strong possibility that your problems don’t require Ativan to be taken. Sometimes we can become anxious because of stressful situation. This is perfectly normal, after all we are not machines.
