The day has finally arrived. Since May, we have had something big up our sleeve. We have now made the switch. From here forward, MMA-JAPAN.com will be moving to a new name, AsianMMA.com. We will be adding several huge features in the coming months that will ultimately allow for us to become, we hope, one of the largest MMA websites in the world.
We plan to build ourselves amongst the community by way of content partnerships. Fortunately, we have already done so, becoming a content partner with MMAWeekly.com. We will be providing them with Asian MMA coverage and sharing with them our love for the sport of MMA. You will notice in the days to come, they will integrate a tab on their homepage that will point readers to AsianMMA.com. We are very proud of this and will be looking to forge more deals with other sites in the coming future.
We have grown at an incredible pace since launching MMA-JAPAN.com. We have tens of thousands of unique viewers a month, and have seen our user base explode over the past two years. Rest assure, nothing is changing. The only things that will chance are the name, and a little bit of the design. We will also be adding several unique features that will give us a great presence in the MMA community.
Going forward, there will not be any updates posted on MMA-JAPAN. All new updates, highlights, and the like will now be at our new home, AsianMMA.com.
We thank you for your continued support, and wish that you follow us on our new adventure.
MMA Icon and PRIDE Lightweight kingpin, Takanori Gomi will return to action this November 10th as the UFC makes it's first foray into China for UFC on FUEL TV 6: Cung Le vs. Rich Franklin.
Gomi will face the tough and scrappy Mac Danzig, who announced the match earlier via his twitter.
Both men have struggled to find consistency in UFC however Gomi is coming off a vintage performance in his most excellent battle with Eiji Mitsuoka at 144, a match that saw Gomi dropped and almost choked out before coming back with a Hadouken spam that put Mitsuoka's lights out. Danzig hasn't seen back to back wins since 2008 but his crowd pleasing style has kept him around and he did look good in his last fight with Efrain Escudero at 145. One of these two will find a little much needed consistency come November 10.
Long live the Queen, or should we say Queens! The dynamic duo of RENA and MIO have once again shown why they are the respective present and future of women's Shoot Boxing.
The unquestionable ace of Shoot Boxing, RENA has reclaimed her title after a rocky 2011. RENA met Kim Townsend in the first round and earned a dominate decision over the Aussie. Korean slugger Seo Hee Ham made it past Bellator's Lisa Ward. MMA and Shoot Boxing dual star V.V Mei advanced past the lanky Namtarn Por. Munagpetch after a battle that needed an extension round and In the biggest upset of the night, reigning champion Erika Kamimura was upset by Lorena Klijn in the extension round.
In the semi-finals, RENA made it past Seo Hee Ham, who turned it up late in the fight to drag RENA into an extension round but RENA found her openings and out pointed the very game Ham. Lorena Klijn only got to rain on one parade because she was out hustled by V.V Mei in the semis. This fight was also very closely contested and went to an extension round but Mei used her excellent grappling skill to earn two almighty Shoot Points and take the decision.
RENA was able to avoid the grappling of Mei in the finals and although she hang tough and keep it very competitive, RENA was able to pick her shots well and earn the nod on the judges cards to once again be crowned S-Cup champion.
In the JKS48 schoolgirl tournament. Akari “Eneos” Nakamura defeated Naoko Otsuka in the semis via extra round decision and MIO did one better, beating Yusa Tachi decisively over 3 rounds. In the final, both MIO and Akari had a tentative first round but that all changed in the second as MIO channeled her inner Cro Cop and unleashed a head kick that stumbled Nakamura and swarmed her with punches. Akari survived the refs round but MIO showed no mercy and continued to pummel until Akari's corner though in the towel.
