Introducing FLeX House
FLeX House is Team Florida’s entry in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011. FLeX House, which stands for Florida zero energy prototype, is our approach to better, sustainable home building in Florida. Designed by top researchers from the University of South Florida, the University of Florida, Florida State University and the University of Central Florida, FLeX House is designed for hot, humid climates like Florida’s and is sized for a young, moderate income couple.
Each of the systems in FLeX House was selected and configured to be sustainable and efficient. In fact, Team Florida’s goal is to build a Florida home prototype that showcases the best possible balance of efficiency, sustainability and economics.
FLeX House illustrates our philosophy that sustainable design practices are inherently good design practices.
