Boston melted. Ooopz.

Here is an artist’s (my) rendition of the horrific things that happened at The Armory in Somerville, that terrible Sunday, August 26 2012- when 10 local hot sauces and 10 local ice creams CLASHED IN UNHOLY MATRIMONY!

It was just like this only even SCARIER!  Boston, this was supposed to be fun and innocent!  Instead, you melted everyone’s faces off and icecreamed bloody murder!!!

Thanks so much to JP Licks and Batch ice creams and Alex’s Ugly Sauce for judging the ice creams and hot sauces!!!  So cool of you guys to hand out samples of your excellence, and donate prizes to boot!!! And the prizes!!!  Oh MAN do I love the good people at Cuisinart, Microplane, Wusthof and Jarlsberg, Anolon!

No doy!! Boston Heaven and Hell Takedown – Ice Cream AND Hot Sauce!!!

$15 TRY ALL THE ICE CREAMS AND HOT SAUCES!  VOTE ON THE YUMMIEST! TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE!

You guys, I had this super smart idea: this summer, the agony and the ecstasy ! The churn and the burn! I’m going to torture the crap out of you, and then closed-eyes hug you like I mean it. Dudes, what’s hotter than ice cream?  And what’s cooler than hot sauce???  The ICAHSTD begs the answers from local hot sauce makers, and then also local ice cream makers…  you’re invited to try 10-15 hot sauces AND THEN put out the fire with 10-15 ice creams- and vote on both, separately!

3rd Annual Chicago Bacon Takedown – you guys lets PIG PILE on Chicago!!!

Remember when I said last year was the best ever Chicago Bacon Takedown?  I fibbed. This one, the 3rd Annual, will be, pinky swear, the badddest rogue gallery of bacon crimes you will ever see.  J’accuse!

This year, 20 Chicago locals are each given 15lbs of Hormel Black Label Bacon. What they do with it, at this point, we can only guess- but check out last year’s concoctions, and assume the worst…

The third and final stop of the Ice Cream and Hot Sauce tour ends where hot sauce and ice cream are done best.  And local home cooks have the gumption!!! San Francisco Bacon Takedown Funpants!

What a fiendishly rad expose of the possibilities of bacon.  SF has always been a majorly fun food stop.  Everyone talks about the restaurants and chefs, but here’s the Takedown to once again prove that the average joe’s walking the streets over there are actually not so average!!!!  In fact, let’s burn every restaurant down!!! Trust me, it won’t be anarchy.  There’s way too much yummy talent in this town-  a new cooking culture will form, of good old fashioned home cooks with boundless energy and rad strength.  THANK YOU COOKS!!!

Brooklyn Ice Cream > Heat Stroke

 

A special big big thank you to the Ice Creamers of Brooklyn, making 2 gallons each to tame a heat wave and bring joy and pizzazz to the Bell House!  You guys are infinitely cooler than your average Brooklynite.    Thanks also to Dream Scoops, Adirondack Creamery, Laboratorio del Gelato and Blue Marble for coming out, handing out huge samples around the place, and judging the ice cream efforts!!!

Thy blade hath drunk deeply, Boston.

Boston has the most colleges and universities in the country. The home of MIT and Harvard to name only 2. They invented beans, and chowder.  Arguably, one might say this is totally the smartest city.  Which explains why 300 of their finest power genius mind lords  show up to the Armory for the Boston Bacon Takedown, just to fill their bellies with all-you-can-eat bacon recipes, until they were officially happysick!!

So, wow! Boston, right?  You guys finally did the thing that I’ve been dreaming of for years now, and you did it wicked good.  Bacon. Corn. Dogs.  I’m not lying, I’ve wanted to see bacon corn dogs since I started doing Bacon Takedowns in 2009, and now that dream is SO REAL!

Thanks to Boston cooks, who are the goodest people!  Thanks to The Armory, which, turns out, is way better than any Boston venue.  Great staff, awesome bar, and it’s in happy Somerville, not stinky downtown. And thanks to my sponosr Hormel Black Label Bacon- for making this, the 3rd leg of the Bacon Takedown tour so succesful…  what a rad ride!!!

Pop quiz, hot shot:  What’s faster than a cherry red Lambourghini Countache Quartravore (this is not a trace I drew that, don’t doubt me ever)? The answer is that there is nothing.  Except maybe the SAN FRANCISCO BACON TAKEDOWN, THAT IS!

Just like last year, and the year before that, I’m bringing the Takedown back to SF.  Each team of local home cooks gets a whopping  15lbs of Hormel Black Label Bacon (sponsoring!) to blow our collective consciousness.  We’re all doofuses for bacon, but I’m looking for you to make something truly spectacular…  So bring your finest bacon recipe on over, and let’s all judge this year’s Takedown “CHAMPIGNON”!!! (that is a actual french word.)

The prizes are kind of totally worth it:  Analon, Le Creuset, Wusthof, Microplane- and even a YEAR’S SUPPLY of Hormel Black Label Bacon!!!
