Explore different ways of treating hair loss

What can we tell you about hair loss that you don’t already know? It rarely happens to women, but it happens to all men after a certain point in their lives. Just when the hair will start falling off and how much will fall off will depend entirely on genetics, and there is not much you can do about the process starting. With most people, hair loss develops slowly. First the hair on the apex of their head will start thinning and then their forehead will start growing. This is how it goes.

And while there is no way you can mess with testosterone, the hormone that influences your body in ways that make it lose hair, there are certainly options for treating this condition, since that is essentially what it is. The main methods we will talk about in this article are pharmaceuticals and surgery, the only two ways of treating hair loss known to show some results.

For a solid temporary solution, chances are you will turn to drugs such as Minoxidil and Finasteride (also known as Propecia, which is its brand name). Minoxidil is rubbed in the skin of your head and stimulates hair growth. It is so easy to purchase that you can get it over the counter in any better pharmacy. While this drug is pretty safe, it can lead to complications in some patients, and show no results in others. For example, about one per cent of the men who use Minoxidil will develop alopecia those these kinds of complications, as you can see, happen only in a single case out of a hundred.

Then we have Finasteride, which is also known as Propecia. This pharmaceutical is also used to treat prostate conditions, mostly because these also have to do with testosterone. It was during one of the trials for the drug that it was discovered it stimulates hair growth in men. Needless to say, it is a prescription-only drug and only your physician can determine whether you should really take it. It is not recommended for all and is also known to cause some side effects, like breast hypertrophy and reduced libido.

Probably the best way to treat the condition is to undergo a hair transplant, also known as MPHL – male pattern hair loss. This is the one method with a truly lasting effect, since through surgery the follicles from healthy areas are transplanted to the barren ones, and then the hair will grow and continue growing. Yes, this does sound like a dream solution, but will also be accompanied in a change of lifestyle that might not suit you.

As we already said, baldness is hereditary and is conditioned by hormones, so once you actually get the surgery, you will need to continue taking certain types of medication to prevent your body from losing hair again.

All in all, the solutions take time but are worth a shot. If your hair means that much to you, go for it.
