Queen Sofia supports Madrid 2020 Bid at the opening of the Spanish House in London

Just few hours before the beginning of the Olympic Games, HRH Queen Sofia has been present in the opening of “Casa de España” in London which will be the headquarter of the Spanish official delegation. Queen Sofia, showed once more her support to Spanish sport and to all the sportsmen and women by wearing the official uniform which the Spanish delegation will dress at the opening ceremony of the Games and by showing the Madrid 2020 pin.

Together with the President of the Bid, Alejandro Blanco and Madrid Mayor, Ana Botella, Queen Sofia toured around the facilities of Casa de España and the Madrid 2020 showcase stand, where an interactive installation allows others, Prince Albert of Monaco, Sergei Bubka, Tokyo 2020 Bid President Tsumekasu Takeda or Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee, who enjoyed the Spanish “tapas” offered during the cocktail.visitors to learn about the Olympic project.

Ana Botella and Alejandro Blanco present Madrid 2020 hallmarks and the bid team

The Mayor welcomed the Madrid 2020 team, led by Alejandro Blanco (President) and Víctor Sánchez (CEO). The meeting was also attended by HRH Infanta Pilar de Borbon. Theresa Zabell, double-Olympic medallist, is also part of the new team as International Relations Manager.

Most of the inhabitants living in the city of Madrid (75.3%) support the 2020 Olympic bid. In the region of Madrid and in the rest of Spain, acceptance rate reaches 84%.

Madrid 2020 on the road to Buenos Aires

Alejandro Blanco pleased with the results as the IOC “confirms we are walking through the right path”. The IOC vote for the 2020 host takes place September 7 next year at the IOC Session in Buenos Aires.
