Big Lebowsky is simply the funniest movie ever made. Once you see it, you will wonder why other comedies are not that funny. It has nothing to do with the plot which you can let unfold without really getting what is going on. It is about characters, about the dialogue and about the LA in which all of those characters live in. Jeff Bridges has the role of his life, as does John Goodman. They are joined by some of the funniest people around and what you get is a movie so funny and so well-written that it makes other comedies pale in comparison.
One insanely funny comedy that you might have not heard of is definitely Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses. It is a story about a Soviet band that goes to Mexico in the first movie, but is now wishing to return home. We follow them as they get back home from Mexico and as they travel across Europe. They are met with their old manager who is now claiming to be Moses. As you can see, it is a ludicrous premise and it is also quite an insane movie with dry delivery and lines that do not seem that funny on paper, but which are simply hilarious when seen in the movie. It is a true gem.
Sunshine Boys is our last recommendation and it definitely does not sound like the funniest movie when it is explained. It is a story about two guys who used to do vaudeville together in the 30s and who are now asked to perform at a celebration of some kind, showing on TV after more than 30 years of being separated. The only problem is that they did not part ways on best of terms and they are both of a certain age, to say the least. Watching these two old guys bicker and one-up each other the whole movie provides us with some of the best dialogue ever written and it is more than worth your time if nothing, then to see Walter Matthau being a grumpy old man, which is what he does best.
