Olympic Opening Ceremony Photos: ‘Dove Bikes’ Showcase Peace at 2012 Olympics

At every Olympic opening ceremony there are elements that the world sees in new ways. In addition to an amazing cauldron centerpiece at the London Olympics, the world got to see the doves in a new way on Friday night. The Dove bikes, as the Olympic game organizers so intently called the riders, were the symbolic message of the actual doves of peace. With 75 riders who rode the ring of the stadium, it was impossible to miss the message of peace.

Wearing dove wings and riding bikes, the volunteers of the Olympic opening games were able to share a moment of joy that lit up the Olympic stadium. Riding around the athletes in a big circle, the Dove bikes gave everyone a chance to appreciate the message in a very contemporary way. Shown toward the end of the ceremony, there wasn’t any doubt just how delighted the crowd was as they cheered seeing the bikes in motion. The special moment was only minutes away from the London Olympics officially opening the games.
