Nowruz or “New Day” | Print |

newruz Around 4500 visitors showed up at Turquoise Center on Saturday, March 24, 2012 to celebrate Nowruz or “New Day”, which is a traditional celebration of the first day of spring. The UN's general assembly in 2010 recognized the international day of Nowruz, describing it a spring festival which has been celebrated for over 3,000 years.

The festival was organized by the Raindrop Turkish House. Booths for countries such as Azerbaijan, Ahiskan Turks, Bosnia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan displayed their culture as well as national food. While all the visitors enjoyed ethnic food and children had a lot of fun playing on moonwalk jumpers. Little ones enjoyed playing in the playground and sand box.

The festival also included performances from participating countries such as folk dances, songs and live music.

Although this was the second Nowruz festival celebrated at Turquoise Center, the turnout was very good. Hopefully, this will become an annual festival that will bring people together to celebrate spring as well as share culture and food.
