One of the excessive sleepiness disorders is narcolepsy and if a person is suffering from it, in most of the cases it means that he or she will not be able to stay awake during the daytime. It happens that the person simply falls asleep suddenly, and the worst thing is that it happens when you least expect it. You can't even see it coming and the next moment you are sleeping. It also means that if you are having issues with narcolepsy that you might not sleep well during the night as well.

When it comes to normal sleeping 24-hour period, if you are suffering from narcolepsy, you will not be able to sleep long enough, and you are going to wake up during the night several times. There are many problems that can be caused by narcolepsy, and some of the most common ones are the problems in the relationships, at work and about the way you feel about your life and , most importantly, about yourself. That is why this is a serious problem and there are many causes to it.

Still, the experts can't tell what exactly can cause narcolepsy, but one thing is for sure - it can be genetic, which means that if someone in your family has a history of this disorder, chances are that you might have to handle with narcolepsy as well. If you want to be sure that you are not one of them, all you have to do is check this list of symptoms and that is the best way to figure out whether or not you are suffering from narcolepsy at all. In most cases, people between 15 and 30 years of age are most likely to have issues with narcolepsy.

If you simply can't sleep during the night, and if that happens over and over again, chances are that you might have to visit the doctor. Also, if you have nightmares all the time and if you are turning and tossing in your bed, it can be one of the signs and it is not a good idea to ignore them. If you want to sleep all the time during the day and there is nothing you can do about it - this is one of the signs as well. Some people who have problems with narcolepsy want to sleep even ten times per day and they can't help it. They have to sleep at least 10 minutes.

If you feel like your muscles are weak and there is no particular reason for that or if you feel like you are paralyzed for a short time, it is about time to contact a doctor and tell him all about your problems. Most of the time it is going to happen when you are tired or when you are angry, scared or even happy. Very real dreams and ever scary ones are also one of the signs of narcolepsy.
