Foreign Ministry to send Paul Watson extradition request to German authorities Tuesday

Environmentalist faces charges in Costa Rica of attempted shipwrecking over 2002 incident.

The Foreign Ministry will send a formal request Tuesday to the German government for the extradition of embattled ocean activist Paul Watson, the daily La Nación reported.

Watson, founder and president of the group Sea Shepherd, was arrested in Germany on May 13 on charges stemming from a 2002 high-seas confrontation between Watson’s ship and a Costa Rican fishing vessel, the Varadero I, allegedly illegally finning sharks off the coast of Guatemala. Watson was released on bail and has remained in Germany awaiting extradition orders from Costa Rica. Watson has claimed that a $20,000 contract has been taken out on his head for his activities against poachers and illegal shark finning, and that he could be killed if extradited to Costa Rica (TT, May 20).

The Foreign Ministry will submit the extradition request along with the accusation of attempted shipwrecking to Costa Rican diplomats in Germany to be presented to authorities there, La Nación reported.

Paul Watson should think long and hard about the lies he has told over forty years , how they are comig back to bite him as they do. Paul Watson should think long and hard about a life of lies a life of hate a life of manipulating the truth, of riding rough shod over the little people, of looking out for number one with donations pouring in to help the Paul Watson bank balance. One day Paul Watson will regret hurting people, threatening people, lying to people, he will regret his arrogance his delusions of grandeur, he is a bully and a coward, he always gets off the charges because he is a bully.Melissa Smith , Watson cannot thumb his nose at the law and walk away scott free. He has the money to pay off the officials , that's what he is hoping for, he has probably attempted to pay off the German officials already, cowards always use their money to get out of every situation , at last one country has the courage not to be intimidated by a criminal. Kevin Flynn I also congratulate Cost Rica for their environmental performance. Watson is a pirate and piracy is a crime. He has destroyed millions of dollars of other peoples possessions. . .boats... their livlihood, he doesnt care as long as his name is up in lights. The Hollywood celebrity cares more about his face lifts his dental veneers and his next meal than endangered animals. He is a fraud. A lying silver tongued con man, a cult leader. He is a dangerous liability . Justice will prevail eventually.
Good for Costa Rica! Watson's criminal actions deserve criminal punishment. Sea Shepherd has never had a boat it didn't crash. Ramming other ships is dispicable and to continually cause collisions and endanger human life makes Sea Shepherd a disgrace to sailors around the world. And CONGRATULATIONS, COSTA RICA FOR RANKING 5th OUT OF 132 COUNTRIES ON YALE'S 2012 ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE INDEX !!!
Chinchilla better think long and hard before taking PW to court and trying him for these outrageous, ridiculous accusations. CR will be highly questioned about its "green" and "environmental protecting" ways. Just watch the tapes people!
