Soma muscle relaxant: what is it and how to use it?

Soma, or Carisopodol, is a muscle relaxant.  But what exactly is a muscle relaxant? It’s a medicine that works acts on the communication between your brain and your spinal cord nerves. Unlike some other muscle relaxants, Soma doesn’t directly affect your muscles, it relaxes your muscles because of its sedative properties. The result is that it can alleviate muscular pains of several different kinds.

Soma is indicated for different uses. For athletes who go through a lot of physical distress and injuries, it can help you get on your feet again faster. It is also helpful for regular people, non-athletes who have sprained or strained a muscle. Ever wondered how sometimes an athlete gets injured but is back again so soon? It’s not a miracle recovery, they had some help. The body needs some rest after an injury, and it’s easier to give it that comfort if you are not in excruciating pain. So taking a muscle relaxant like Soma along with rest and, in some cases, physical therapy is the best combination to get well sooner. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that a muscle relaxant like Soma works by relieving your body of some of the pain. It doesn’t mean the injury has magically gone away, so give your body a well needed rest before working on it full power again.

As with any sort of medicine, there are some important things to watch out for when using Soma.  While it does relieve the pain, it doesn’t happen as soon as you swallow a pill. Soma takes around 30 minutes to start working, and then gives you around 6 hours of pain relief. It should always be taken with a glass of water.  It also helps if you have some food before taking it, as lots of medicines can make your stomach upset if you take them on an empty stomach.

Always follow your doctor’s instructions. In some countries, Soma is only sold with prescriptions. If used improperly, it can cause dependence and even some withdrawal symptoms. It should also be noted that the correct dosage should also be taken into consideration. If you take any kind of medicine and the symptoms don’t go away, call your doctor. That is true for Soma too, don’t ever take a bigger dose than recommended by your doctor.

Possible side effects are tremors, nausea, vomiting, loss of vision, dizziness, confusion, sleep problems and decreased coordination. While these are only possible side effects, let you doctor know if you have them and they don’t go away. Also, report to your doctor if you have epilepsy, liver or kidney diseases, allergies to any drugs or if you’re a pregnant woman.  Soma is one of the most effective medicines at dealing with pain caused by muscle injuries and spasms.  It’s a widespread muscle relaxant and well known in the medical field. It can help you with your pain but, as with any medicine, always use it under a doctor’s orientation.
