Hi guys -

As you know I started out, maybe 5 years ago, writing fanfiction about RPG heroines getting hypnotized and seduced. It was rather popular and led to me starting a yahoo group where I've commissioned lots and lots of work over the years. I like to tell myself that I partly inspired the recent Japanese interest in monstergirls that wasn't really apparent until pictures I commissioned found their way onto Japanese imageboards.

As mentioned in the Village of Nightmare thread, I've been working on a huge project. If you remember my game Monstergirl Quest (not the Japanese one, but a fangame I made spoofing RPG elements and rife with bad ends), this is basically an extension of that. Except with all-custom artwork, sprites, all that.

The concept of the game is that a vain girl has unleashed the seductive yet dangerous power of an ancient "Black Rose" hidden deep inside a temple until now... your heroine is the only one who can stop her, but you have to face those who have been enslaved by her, and resist falling under her spell yourself...

There are a ton of fetishes in this, but the main ones are hypno, yuri, corruption, breasts, hose, bondage, slime, smoke.

I plan to release a demo in the next few weeks that will have about 10 bad ends, maybe more. The whole game itself I hope to have around 60 bad ends, all devoted to hypno in some way, which will be by leaps and bounds more than any other h-game in existence. There are around 18-20 bad girls total in the game, and my target is somewhere around 3 bad ends per monstergirl.

Also, if you guys do have requests, I would like to make the game responsive to the community. I've taken a handle writing a good deal of the plot and the majority of the art is finished, but I am still adding elements and pics here and there so it's really malleable.

I have a couple working titles at the moment. I'll go with whatever you guys think is sexiest :) :

Anon, if you're going to take those shots at my artist, you can fuck off. As I understand, you're weighing the style of a game created out-of-pocket and in bits of free time to an h-game produced by a dedicated studio and professional doujin artists. Good job!

She's great. And she will probably see this thread, so good job hurting a girl's feelings!

But, if you don't like the style, you can either 1) donate a shitload of money to hire me a design team, 2) go start your own team, or 3) grovel at the feet of the makers of "Katawa Shoujo" to see if they will include hypno content (BTW - I looked that up, and it's about crippled girls).

My plan is to make a solid chunk of this open to everybody and be responsive/program it with user requests. However I will be severely disincentized from doing that and probably say "screw it" if people aren't nice.

I actually have to say I like the art in rb9's little preview pic better than the stuff from Katawa Shoujo (looked it up, got some examples). That invalidates your entire point.

The artwork is opinionated, but the coding? How can you even say the coding looks crappy? I don't see any code anywhere. I see 2d game style play, but no code. As one who aspires and is entering college next semester for programming I take offense when you base "code quality" on "how it looks". The quality of a code is measured by how well it works toward achieving the goal, not how pretty the GRAPHICS are.

It really boils down to this. You don't like it? You don't have to play it. So if you don't have something constructive to add, don't add it.
And you know what? I'll bet you'll play it after it's done despite your complaints.

"Nobody asked to be paid for their art." Anon, most of the commissioning artists I encounter are students or young professionals trying to earn extra money. They need to pay rent, and producing just a quality pinup takes hours. Artists are not charities. You are taking the actions of some Japanese guys responding to a rare meme development on a Chan - and translating that into expectations that artists work for free.

Comparing my situation to Katawa Shoujo glosses over that game's obviously unique and distinguishable circumstances. It astounds me you are still pushing this point.

Wow, in posting my last comment, I regret wasting my time trying to rationally address Anon's points. I agree with Mindwipe - these comments are uncivil and counterproductive.

I understand and accept criticism if somebody is not a fan of the artstyle. However, you are not being critical - you are being downright offensive to the artist.

I would like to bring this thread back on topic and welcome general comments and... requests! I can't promise every request will make it in. But generally, if requests are more general there is a greater chance I can adapt them to what I have and include them (i.e. if you want the heroine dominating monstergirls, for example, or a particular type of induction).

Finally, I am OK with dev forum - is that creative development? Will people actually see that thread? One of the reasons I posted this is to receive and respond to feedback and requests. I don't want anybody to get left out because they missed the thread (I didn't actually know about /dev until now).

I love hypnofetish but this game would mean all the less to me if it was all the player character being controlled and not the player character controlling (too). I'm not a fan of stuff that makes me or whatever character I'm controlling (and thus in extension the player) a Sub rather than a Dom or Dom-Sub (the kind that are a little of both or can easily switch between them).

Given the choice of what people would find hotter, slightly nicer sprites and/or the writing/voices/art, I decided to go with the latter. Not that it won't be visually appealing, but given that this game is similar in nature to MGQ.

I'm not too squeamish about doing this given that it seems almost every H-game uses the same damn engine that involves clicking the mouse a hundred times through stuff you can't understand to get to a single piece of content.

Second. I'm sure I'll have plenty of fun trying to get all the bad endings to see how the heroine gets controlled, but I'd like the good endings to be just as satisfying. It would be nice if you could include some "turning the tables" scenarios, where the heroine starts out being controlled, but manages to break free and take control of her foe. That way, we get the best of both worlds. :)

Hmm, something I would like to see as far as inductions go... Group induction, like a group of girls ganging up on you, surrounding you, whispering hypnotic suggestions, staring at you with hypnotic eyes, kind of a peer pressure style induction.

Another would be where the heroine is slowed down through induction, hypnotized into believing her movements are getting slower and slower, or that the villainess's movements are getting faster and faster, until she believe herself at the mercy to the villainess's superior skills.

I think I know what to do with the dominance factor. I'll probably do it with the main villains, possibly a handful of the monstergirls.

Also, the game's main (bad) ending will have three main paths. One will be becoming enslaved by the villainess. Second will be impressing and joining the villainess as her right hand. The third will be enslaving the villainess and stealing her power, becoming the new villainess.

Sapphic is a less common way of saying lesbian, sway implies some seduction... Though it might be better to just go with that, however I feel that that would be more common...

Thinking about it, would it be so bad to use "monstergirl quest" as the label, then using a caption to work in the rose angle? Something like

Yes, I made the original MGQ. I've always wanted to continue but I was always frustrated at not having art for it.

If I can properly get your hopes up, "Black Rose: Entranced by Monstergirls" (that has a decent ring?) is more or less designed to be MGQ on medically unsafe steroids.

HOWEVER for everybody that liked MGQ... tell me your favorite parts of it! I will literally put in the aspects people like.

For example, what I'm programming right now is the first encounter with one of the villains. I think people liked the ability to be able to resist versus submit - there will be that.

I'd rather have something more specific and distinct than "Black Rose" though. A name that will raise it above generic fantasy-ness. Though it's more acceptable if it is a subtitle. I still like the idea of calling it the Imperial Rose. Though as a thought, a synonym for black like Onyx, Obsidian, Ebony, or even Midnight would all be nice as well.
Either way, I do have a few ideas. Feel free to play with the word "black"

Shadow of the Black Rose
Glamor of the Black Rose (a personal like for me. Glamor= beauty, as well as Charm, like magic, and it is also traditionally the term for faerie magic of illusion/enthrallment as well. Sounds nice as well. "Glamor of the Midnight Rose" anyone?)

And if you really did come up with the idea for Monstergirl Quest first, I'd definitely claim the name as your own and make it yours. Not to mention that this will be the more accessible game for westerners anyway. It's short, sweet, to the point, and doesn't sound too weird.

I think Black Rose, while "generic" still has a nice, simple ring to it. Roses aren't generally black anyway, so it's mysterious enough.

Now on the villainess stuff, there were multiple ways to submit to her, you mean in that you talked to her like 8 times and there were different "reactions" you had?

On that note, a number of them involved fetishes. I've tried to tone down pantyhose etc. in this one, but if you guys don't mind I'll crank that up. I.e. right now the catgirl (pictured in the teaser) is bare legged with boots. I was thinking of sticking black hose on her.

In MGQ it seemed people were pretty flexible with whatever, but it's your call.

Define "crank up". I definitely prefer bare skin, but I don't *mind* pantyhose. But if a majority of the characters were wearing them, I feel it would get old pretty fast.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if the character's design looks good with pantyhose, then fine. Just don't give a character hose for the sake of giving them hose.

How we set it up was basically a Correct, Wrong, and Submissive. Correct was basically answers that you calmly avoided her seduction, wrong ones were where you resisted too hard and Alicia ended up tricking you into it, and submission, well I think those were self evident.

Now, with people wanting to be dominate as well, if it were possibly, what if we could add a 4th option, a Seduction answer, for certain dialog scenes. One with the heroine turning the tables instead, flustering the monstergirl/villainess, and causing their lust take control. ... However, if you use this at the wrong time/with the wrong fetish(or something), the villainess with easily find know, lure you into thinking that's she's given in, only to overwhelm you with her charms.

Super rough example: Try to tempt villainess into letting you give a puff puff
(is her fetish): You Puff Puff her into submission, enjoy it a little too much, and decide to become the new villainess
(isn't her fetish) Get's close to your beast, says how tempting they are, then gives you a sudden charm kiss, pops behind you, and begins groping you into submission, telling you how wonderful they are, and making it your fetish to always have them groped, enslaved~

Hmm, if a forth option isn't optional, it might be good to sometimes to save the option for key parts near the end, like if you been doing good answers and your "reward" is the option to either progress, or go for that ending... Maybe you can choose from a certain # of fetishes...

Not sure, might be too complicated at the moment, definitely needs some tuning.

But basically, what we have as far as dialog choices is this(using Witch's Tower as a basis)
1) Good choice (progression, not falling under a charm)
2) Bad choice (tricked and charmed into enslavement)
3) Submission (giving in to charm, becoming a minion/lover)

Now, since people want the option for a domination end, we would need a new option added to dialog(assuming that would be the mechanic used). That would be a Seduction choice.

4) Seduction (attempt to seduce the enemy and make them your thrall).

Now, like the submission choices, this would kinda be an obviously worded choice. That's the basics.

However, I would like to see possible turnabout in this, because one of the hottest things to me is when a heroine tries to play her foe(via acting innocent or trying to be seductive), only to have the tables turned on her and be completely outclassed and overwhelmed. It would also make such a obviously worded choice risky. The question is, how to work that in if applicable...

This doesn't sound like a fair solution. Otherwise, why shouldn't all of the other developers post advertisement threads here too? I think the thread should just be moved into /dev/ or /dis/, OP's preference. There's no need to post a different Black Rose thread in every single board of Hypnochan. If rb9 really wants to advertise the game in the least obnoxious and most rule-abiding way, what he can do is provide a link in each of his posts to the OP post of the thread. So for example, say I wanted to link you to Cypress's thread in /dev/. I would just include this link, http://hypnochan.org/dev/res/424.html , at the bottom of each of my posts with the words "Click here to learn more about [the name of Cypress's mod]!" Something like that, akin to signatures on a webforum, would be a less-intrusive, more rule-abiding way to go about this.

Yes and Rainday pretty much wrote the majority of the witch tower sequence, so give him credit for that. I think the seduction idea is interesting but probably not feasible (to have villainess strengths/weaknesses). There will be chances to turn the tables but the core philosophy of this game (and the content I create) is bad ends.

Hey rb9, I have got some requests. Can you have the heroine be mind-controlled by some type of music? The villainess could play a flute or violin and the heroine finds it so lovely that she just wants to listen to it forever...something like that?

Also, one of my favorite endings in your first game was the neko in the bath. Could you put a similar ending in your new game, please?

I liked the trap element. How all you see is a treasure chest in some water, then as soon as you step in...BAM! A neko who was hidden offscreen ends up capturing you.

Also, I liked the neko's last sentence, where she said, "You will be my bath partner forever." I think the idea of the heroine being seduced and then washing her new mistress is pretty good.

There will be domination, but I don't know if you could consider it a "path." I tend to shy away from a "path" approach since it makes getting the endings harder. Really this is developing like MGQ where you get rewarded for experimenting in different ways and exploring things.

Throw me a bone. I don't want to read this entire thread, sifting through crap posts and their electronic dopplegangers, great posts. Well, I did a bit of reading and seen another Anon has yet to accept the worldly truth- Critics are assholes, and their victims tend to cry. Not trying to demean you, rb9, but the whole "protect our leader" group mentality is a bit annoying. I do encourage great shit now and then, and definitely know how to be an ass and have an opinion while making people whine about how mean I am (Looking at you, Kaa X), but in truth, if you can't deal with some "ugly" words and need a group behind you, then why are you trying?

With that sidetrack having reduced my previous paragraph to shit, I'll get to the point. What is the story? What should it be built around? Who is our protagonist? What is the purpose? What is accomplished?

My suggestion:

Our protagonist is a player-named rogue who stumbles across a rather interesting legend. Pursuing the legend, she attempts to track down and find clues and answers as to what is behind the entire thing, and the persons involved. Along the way, there are various enemies attempting to prevent her from uncovering this truth, as well as shifty side-characters who, when properly "pushed", hint at things important to the story. If you don't "push" them right, they'll sell you out for something and turn away.

Let's make this fun, though.
-Monstergirls. Especially slimes and Harpy's.
-Corruption. But not blatant shit. Make it seem subtle, yet obvious.
-Smoking is pretty alright, though if you overdo it, expect some fan retaliation
-A big one for most of us: Bimbo. If our hero is turned into one, guaranteed very few of us will make it to the next part.
-Although people might rip me apart for this, Haigakure/Posing.
-TF with small stuff (extra organs, etc) to HUGE changes (gender-bender, furry, etc). Hell, for shits and giggles, make one boss have a fraternal mindframe, where she wants a daughter, but the victim is unable to revert (Game Over. Computer Wins).

A lot of points here, I'll try to hit the main ones.
1) You don't have the original person's posts because a mod stepped in and thought it was appropriate to delete them. There was a series of posts that were outrageously and unnecessarily insulting to the artist and filled with completely spite toward other posters. I have a thick skin for critique but I also won't let someone prance around and insult friends or my artist (without good reason, of course, if there's something you don't like about the idea or style I'd like to hear). And I don't need any fanclubs to encourage me to tell someone off. Others chimed in because the guy was really out of line.
2) Thanks for the big-picture ideas, but the game is already well into development and as mentioned at least 70-80% of artwork is done. However some of these specific elements I can certainly address.
3) On the title I think I am going to settle on something containing "Hypnotized by Monstergirls" or "Charmed by Monstergirls." Possibly the latter, then with a subtitle referencing the Black Rose.
4) I am actually demonstrating impressive restraint with my own fetishes. A good number of things "I like" is going in the demo, actually. Part 2 features a Barb-E type villainess, but otherwise the Barb-E type will be the only one that smokes and there might be some enemies with hypnotic mists, etc. but those will be based on pheromones and incense. There is a lot of hypno! That's the one thing there's a lot of.
5) I don't know what you mean by blatant corruption. Usually my stories and sequences are fairly drawn out (see MGQ).

There is TF, that is about a third of the game. What I have tried to do with the game is balance out the TF fantasies of the community. A fair number are "villain's minion" evil-conversion type TFs. Most of the monstergirls involve an ending of TF into that monstergirl. There is a spectrum involved. The bunnygirl is one of the lightest, actually, as far as physical TF. Her hair is originally blonde. There are other TFs that are much "harder." However I had not thought of bimbo, although two of them (bunnygirl included) have elements that I would consider bimbo. I don't have the fetish myself so I could be wrong. It'll be in the demo though so you'll have a chance to give feedback, or you can make suggestions (is it personality and outfit?).

Hmmm, sorry for the double post, but this just came to me(probably because of the Shantae thread). A bottle that turns you into a loyal genie who will grant her mistress's every wish. There are two ways I could see it going down, 1 is finding the bottle and being sucked into it, the bottle is filled with hypnotic smoke and soft pillows and magic whisp that arouse you and whisper new thoughts into your head. What follows is a long drawn out transformation into a genie. Another is the more "classic" one where you find a genie and she tries to trick you into wishing for swapped places/becoming her hypnotic pet, or other fun things. That could have a few fun option and bad ends, but yeah, it might be too ambitious and big, wish this came to me earlier though. I'm not the previous annonymous, but I'll explain my interpretation (as I agree with what he says as I interpret it):
I think what is meant is about having a variety of ways to "break" each character, with a modicum of "having to figure out how to do so". This would likely require having a bit of specific game mechanics devoted specifically for this purpose, as opposed to more "visual novel" type interactions with the NPC. Personally I can't say I've ever played a MC game that fits the bill, which arguably is not surprising given how non trivial and niche that sounds (I do think there are some japanese games that might somewhat fit the bill from the descriptions I've read of them, but I can't really judge so as I don't read japanese).
Your game, on the other hand, sounds more like a "heroine trying to avoid being corrupted" kind of thing (correct me if I'm wrong), which IS something I've see rather well done before in english, in the form of some RAGS games. This, to me, does indeed (by design) limit much of the possibility for the kind of interactivity I would like to one day see in some MC games, but I'm no less interested in your game because of that.

I am sure some RAGS games have similar avoid-corruption elements, and I've played a handful of them. There are a handful of games incorporating one or two of those elements, but not many incorporating all. I have a few thoughts on maids as well, see if there is anything you want to use. We could make the maids cow girl maids(milk/dairy maids), which would keep the monstergirl theme, as well as explaining their submissive behavior.

If you want, there's a possibility to make it into a full fledged event(mixing in a little bit of Maid Manor is possible from the old MGQ http://mgq.lefora.com/2010/09/05/maid-mansion/#post4 ). You would either have to rescuse a princess or the Madam has been acting strange recently. So, some advice to gauge interest. I ran into a little snag with RMXP and it looks like the compression limit is around 100 MB. So I am adapting to fit that but it looks like the whole game can probably work as 6 parts, with each one having a boss.

Again honestly I am not trying to profit or anything off this - this isn't really an efficient or viable source of income for me. I was thinking of making each part pretty cheap if I do release it. It's more about having some sort of buffer - I'm happy continuing to invest in projects like these but if nobody donates or does anything in return I'm gonna be at 10 grand by the time I do my next few ideas after this.

Some of those ideas include an RPG with an ATB side-view system involving charm/hypno spells, and enemies that do sexual things to your team. Also I have this dream of a Final Fantasy Tactics-style game where you control a team of monstergirls that you dress up, train, and customize with various equipment, hypno, and charm spells. Then you'd be able to hypnotize and capture good girls that you fight.

These are pretty ambitious and it boils down to gauging interest. Active Time Battle. It means that time moves normally during battle, so enemies can attack even while you're selecting your attacks; as opposed to a turn-based battle system, where time stands still until you've given your commands. Most (if not all) traditional Final Fantasy games use an ATB system.

Been meaning to address that for the last 2 days. I'm pretty sure this is the one, basically it's the crypt area if I remember correctly(go to the cross then go up).

Note that there is a problem in the mountain pass that concerns rocks due to the crypt making them unpassable, so you need to get the old version and get through that part, but can switch back right after. Anyone with further question should consult the forum.

Just a little update. Things are still underway. In the meantime, I have actually made a new game that is a side-story off Monstergirl Quest. It's called Vampiregirl Quest and features the whole cast (Jessica, Rydia, Rosa, and Rena) of MGQ on a side-adventure. It's an exclusive for Vampyou.com that I've been working on secretly for the past six months or so. I made it in the same spirit as MGQ so almost all aspects are similar (this was beore my recent RMXP jump on Black Rose). As you can tell by the attached art, Chaoscroc hopped on to do 15 pinups for it. It's $10 for a month's membership at Vampyou but there's an enormous amount of content. Vampire, corruption, girl/girl, and a nice amount of hypno too [Note- I don't get any commissions for you joining]

Just thought I'd put that out there if anybody wants to be tied over!

If you guys have honest feedback and critiques of VGQ I am happy to hear them. It'll help make BR better - and do know that while VGQ was made in the model of MGQ, BR (this game) is a whole new deal.

I made this game because there are many aspects of the vampire fandom that overlap with hypno and corruption. The theme is definitely vampire - it's one thing I've always found hot but it's worth noting that maybe not every member on this board is going to find that appealing. That isn't saying that people outside the audience of VY couldn't enjoy the game, I just think the enjoyment will be much more peripheral.
