Invitation to the Nomination for the  Koshihikari International Rice Prize

Accepting All Applications for the Third International Koshihikari Rice Prize.

The International Koshihikari Rice Prize was established to commemorate"International Rice Year" in 2004 designated by the United Nations. This award project has been organized by the support of the citizens of Fukui Prefecture, where Koshihikari was developed. We have just started to accept new applications for the third International Koshihikari Rice Prize. You can take a look at the previous award programs and apply by using the form attached on this web site. We are looking forward to receiving many applications.

This prize was established by the original breeder of Koshihikari to recognize rice researchers who are working in various institutions. This prize will be given to the two best nominees. Each laureate will receive 500,000 Japanese yen in connection with the award(includes airfaire and hotel cost).

Koshihikari is the name of a rice cultivar, which has enjoyed a great reputation in Japan as the best quality rice for twenty years.

The development of Koshihikari is acknowledged to be an important contribution achieved by a local agricultual experiment station that has attained nation wide cultivation.
