What dosages does Valium come in?

Valium is one of the most effective and most widespread medications when it comes to treating different forms of anxiety, depression and muscle spasms. It has been present on the market for quite some time and has established itself as one of the most reliable medicines. Of course, no matter how reliable it is, you should never start the treatment on your own for there are different forms and different dosages that Valium comes in and your doctor will know which the right one for you is.

Valium comes in four different forms. The first and the most usual is the form of pill. The pills are small and round and they usually come in three different colors – blue, yellow and orange. There are three dosages of these pills and these are a 2mg dose, a 5mg dose and a 10mg dose. The prescribed dose will depend on many factors and it is usually administered two to four time a day. Valium also comes in the form of solution whose dosage is 5mg/ml. Injection of Valium is also available and it comes in only one dosage which is also 5mg/ml. Finally, there is also the rectal gel as a form of Valium. It comes in three dosages: a 2.5mg dose, a 10mg dose and a 20mg dose. The prescribed dosage of the rectal gel will depend on the age and the weight of the patient, and it is usually 0.2 – 0.5 mg/kg.

You should not start the treatment by yourself. As mentioned before the right form and dosage depend on many factors such as the general state of your health, the severity of your condition and many others. Your doctor is the one who is competent to decide with the help of different tests how high dosage you need and what form would be the best for you to take.

There is also another point that you should be aware of. In fact, since your body absorbs Valium through liver, i.e. it is metabolized there, and it is excreted through kidneys, patients who have abnormal kidney function might have some troubles with taking Valium. That is why it is very important to inform your doctor about it in case you suffer from abnormal kidney function. The doctor will probably have to lower the dose of Valium for you.

Of course, never take more than the recommended dose. Dosages that are higher than your body can take in will only bring you uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous consequences.

To sum up, there are different forms and dosages of Valium. Which one of them your doctor will choose for you depends on many factors and that is the reason why you should not start using Valium without consulting your doctor first. Of course, if you suffer from any other kind of condition, especially abnormal kidney function, necessarily inform your doctor about it. Since you are now familiar with all these facts, follow your doctor’s instructions and enjoy your peaceful life again.
