Spectrum Entertainment releases New Racing game CarDust for Android

Spectrum Entertainment releases New Racing game CarDust for Android

If you like your racing games a little on the vintage side of things you’ll get a kick out of CarDust from Spectrum Entertainment. CarDust is a new Android racing game that lets you throw up dust from desolate wastelands to ruined dockyards and it’s quite a bit of fun to boot… CarDust takes you on a ride across some desolate looking landscapes in some cool vintage vehicles that range from an old VW Beetle to a wicked looking classic Cadillac. The cars and tracks look great and really work well to put you in the gritty world of CarDust. Racing games on mobiles are definitely not my favorite genre, and the way CarDust is laid out took me a little getting used to. There is no “landscape” mode during gameplay so you’ll have to hold the phone normally and steer with a set of 3 buttons laid out across the bottom of the screen. Considering the tracks and how much you slide around the turns, you’ll probably need some practice before you take 1st place;some power-ups can also make things a bit tricky as well. CarDust gives gamers 5 cool vehicles (a 6th can be unlocked) and 5 great looking 3D tracks. There are 3 modes of gameplay as well with Quick Race,Time Trail, and Tournament. Verdict I only spent about a half hour played the free versions of CarDust, but liked everything I saw although I really wish the game could be played in landscape mode like most racers. There’s a free version of the game you can try that gives you 2 game modes,2 cars, and two tracks while the full version gives you everything for $1.99. CarDust is well worth a look and you can check it out on Google Play. CarDust Spectrum Entertainment

unnamed

Google has just announced at today’s Maps events that Google Maps offline download feature, previously a “labs”option inside the Google Maps for Android app,is going official. According to the Google, the feature is “coming soon.”Unfortunately, there was no word on support for offline navigation.

Here’s are some (less than great) shots of the interface in action on a tablet:

From what we can tell, the interface has been improved and it is now much easier to make an offline area selection than it was in the Labs version of the feature. We’ll update this post as we learn more.

Verizon officially confirms rumored GSIII pre-order July 9 ship-out date

With the announcement of Verizon’s Galaxy S III came details such as a pre-order date, pricing and storage options that will be available. What wasn’t clear at the time was when exactly Big Red was planning on shipping out pre-ordered devices, though most were fairly certain that it would be around the 3rd week in June, much like Sprint and T-Mobile.

However,a leak earlier today suggested that pre-orders would instead ship out on July 9 and it actually happens to be legit. Verizon has just confirmed July 9 as the pre-order ship-out date for their GSIII on their website. Seeing as before the GSIII announcement,no one was even sure if Verizon would get it at all,it’s still great news to know it’s coming. It’s just coming 3 weeks after the competition.

It’s not too bad of a wait considering that Big Red did have the Galaxy Nexus exclusivity for 4 full months before any other U.S. carriers could offer it. Patience red grasshoppers, patience.

Chrome Beta for Android updates, stability and performance Improvements

Yes,we are extremely late to post up the fact that Chrome Beta updated. Not because we didn’t want to let you know sooner, but because we had no time to let you know. Foursquare Gets a Makeover:Here’s What’s New

After a week of dropping hints from its Twitter account,Foursquare has finally launched its redesigned app.

Anyone who was anticipating new breakout features, however, need not get too excited. The main difference between the new and old app is (much prettier) packaging.

“We launched Lists,we launched Explore,”Foursquare Head of Product Alex Rainert tells Mashable. “What we set off to do six months ago is,now that we have these pieces, let’s put them together.”

Photos now take center stage in both the Explore and Friends tabs, making them look more like a Path or Instagram feed than a list. User profiles have a tiled interface that allows users to access stats, lists, badges a…Continue reading…

How the ‘all-new’ Foursquare is using big data to figure out what you’ll crave next

How the all-new Foursquare is using big data to figure out what youll crave next

“The profile page should be a representation of me and what I do when I go out into the world,”Foursquare Head of Search Andrew Hogue told me,but what he really means is that you as a person are quickly becoming the sum of everywhere you’ve been and everything you’ve done. On Facebook, you’re the sum of all your interactions and photos with others;but on Foursquare, location and detecting patterns are key. Foursquare today released a completely revamped mobile app for iOS and Android that takes years of data mining and algorithm refinement and stuffs it into a tiny blue-green app. Foursquare began its life as a way to see what your friends are up to,but it has quickly evolved …

Featured:Google has a Patent for Smart Actions like technology

Do you remember Smart Actions for the Motorola RAZR? It’s similar to Tasker,a popular Android application, allowing you to automate tasks on your phone, based on defined rules, settings, and even location. Motorola boasted that their Smart Actions have the potential to increase your battery life up to 30%.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Google has been extremely quite about a patent that they filed back in September,2011. The patent covers Google obtaining network information and GPS information to see where you and your phone are. Then, using that information to perform certain tasks.

So what exactly are Smart Actions,location-based settings, how can they improve your battery life and more importantly, why do you want them? Maybe when you’re at work, you don’t have GPS service. To save battery, you could program an application to turn off your GPS radio while you’re at work automatically. Or maybe while you’re at home, you enable your WiFi radio, which you disabled during your commute from work. When you get home, you’ll want that turned on,so you don’t have to waste your expensive mobile data plan,so you create a task to do so. There are many, many different use cases besides battery saving techniques. Maybe you want to send a text message to your significant other when you leave work,to let them know that you’re on your way home. Or maybe while you’re in the car, it could enable your phone’s Bluetooth radio or launch Google Play Music automatically.

These are just some examples of Smart Actions or Tasker configurations. We don’t know what or how Google plans on using this patent. However,it does excite us with the recent launch of on{x} a location-based phone automation service from Microsoft, which requires you sign into Facebook to even use the application. For those  of us that eat and sleep Google,it will be nice to have similar functionality in a Google native application.

Google rolls out bugfix updates to Google Maps,Shopper, and Chrome for Android

Back in April Google VP Sundar Pichai said that the company was hoping to move Chrome for Android out of beta “in a matter of weeks.”While it hasn’t arrived yet,Google is moving the ball forward with a new stability update for the mobile browser, with Google Shopper and Maps also getting minor refreshes. New versions of all three apps were released today, and while the focus is on stomping out bugs,Chrome is getting a reshuffled settings menu. Google Maps received an update just a few days ago that brought Zagat integration –paying off on Google’s acquisition of the restaurant review company last September –along with the ability to initiate new directions from bubbles within…

HTC Media Link Now Available from AT&T for $90

We first heard about the HTC Media Link when we were at Mobile World Congress back in February but since then the buzz surrounding the unit has died down a bit. The Media Link is HTC’s way of wirelessly transfering media from your One Series device to your television all with a simple swipe on your device’s screen. Unfortunately, since the One X was held up at the boarder we all but forgot about the Media Link and now that the Galaxy S III craze has died down we can focus more on the little things. This is good timing because AT&T just announced that the HTC Media Link is now available and can be purchased online for $90. Other than streaming photos, video and music, the Media Link can also wirelessly mirror you device’s screen similar to Apple’s AirPlay.

Unfortunately the Media Link isn’t compatible with the One V and only works with the One S and One X. Hit up the source to link for ordering information.

Startup Rebel Mouse Wants to be the Social Web’s Front Page

Rebel Mouse, the new web service by former Huffington Post CTO Paul Berry, wants to be the front page to your life on the internet.

On first glance,it looks like a digital newspaper of your social life, organized on Pinterest. After you spend some time on the site,it becomes clear that it’s much more than that.

Although people are great at updating social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, their personal websites are a constant source of embarrassment. Berry told Mashable,Rebel Mouse brings it all together.

“When I was chief tech officer at Huffington Post, people would constantly come to me asking me how to build a homepage,”Berry said. The only answer he had to give is th…Continue reading…

Fahrenheit 451:Did Bradbury’s Dystopia Come True?

The nature of science fiction has always been thus:no matter how far ahead authors try to think, they are always trapped in their own times. Elements of their books will invariably look dated from the moment they are published.

Ray Bradbury, who died in Los Angeles Wednesday at the grand old age of 91,was as susceptible to this as any other grand master of the genre. Read his 1953 classic of future firemen who burn books,Fahrenheit 451,and you’ll run into plenty of quaint details. Firemen smoking tobacco pipes, lit with “chemical matches.”Cheesy ads for “Denham’s Dentrifice.”1950s lingo such as “swell”.

But brush those quirks aside, and what you’re left with is one of the m…Continue reading…

What I Learned on Airtime With Sean Parker

“What if someone just has a really phallic-looking face?”This is the question I found myself asking Airtime founder Sean Parker,a man who coincidentally turned out to be my very first Airtime chatmate.

Airtime is a platform that makes it dead-simple for people to video chat with their friends —or with people that share their interests —online. While its easy to compare the service with Chatroulette,Airtime has more to offer users.

And unlike Chatroulette,Airtime promises to protect us from being inundated by a barrage of penises. Thanks to a smartly designed algorithm,Airtime is supposed to prevent chats from getting X-rated or untoward.

AT&T HTC One X update released OTA with Wi-Fi tweaks

If you’ve been experiencing Wi-Fi problems on your AT&T HTC One X,you’ll be happy to hear that HTC has seen it fit to release a minor update to address the issue. The new version –number 1.85.502.3 –is rolling out now OTA to users, and HTC tells us that it “improves operation when a device leaves Wi-Fi coverage”and increases throughput as well. AT&T users on both the xda-developers and Android Central forums are offering conflicting reports on what changes they’re seeing –some claim battery life has dropped and others see no improvement to Wi-Fi performance –and,of course,if you’ve rooted your One X you’ll lose it when you upgrade. We’re disappointed that HTC hasn’t yet ad…

‘Madden NFL 2013′ Brings Voice Control,Virtual Twitter Feed

Popular NFL video game Madden is back for 2013 with an updated version of the game that utilizes the Kinect sensor to allow you to voice-control the game.

Joe Montana took the stage at E3 to demonstrate the game, calling out plays and changing formations of players with his voice just as he might if he was actually on the field.

Powered by an all-new Infinity Engine, the game takes into account the size of a player so smaller players won’t easily be able to plow through larger ones and no two players feel the same when it comes to game play. Player interactions have also seen an overhaul,so if you’re on a run and get nudged by another player, for instance, that nudge will effect you…Continue reading…
