There are a few myths concerning car insurance that can be very harmful for a driver, especially in respect to their policy and their car insurance coverage. We will try and cover these myths in detail, giving you reasons why you should stop believing in them in case you do.
The first and one of the most common myths is that you will not get into accidents. People have a tendency to think that getting into accidents is something that happens to other people. This is simply not true and everyone can get into an accident at one point. Even if you are the most careful driver in the world, you need to realize that you depend on hundreds of other participants in traffic and that it may not even be up to you. In fact, it is because of this that a certain level of car insurance is required by law.
Another common myth is that the color of the car does not affect the premiums. You will hear this from a number of different sources, but the fact is that most insurance companies factor in the color of the car. For instance, dark colors are considered to be more inconspicuous during night, which makes them more likely to be involved in accidents. On the other hand, light colored cars are easier to spray over which makes them more likely targets for thieves.
Another myth that people often believe is that the government is the one setting the insurance premiums. This is simply not true as this is a free country where this is governed by a number of factors that do not have anything to do with government involvement. Insurance companies set their own policies and their own premium charges and there is nothing there that has to do with the government.
Many people also believe that their credit rating has no influence on the premiums they will pay. Once again, this is a complete fallacy and it has to do with a number of factors. Credit ratings can provide reassurance to the company that you are a viable client and that you will not skip on your payments or even that you will not attempt any kind of insurance fraud which is actually quite common.
These are all myths that would be busted if they featured on Mythbusters.
