A mandatory summary field is pretty much coded into Jira. The best you're
going to do with a plugin is force the user to enter a summary, and then
overwrite it afterwards (if you do this, I think I'd create a custom field and
copy what the user entered into the summary into it, so they don't complain
about losing it!)

Your only other option is to start looking into changing the core code in Jira.

How can hide user issues list

I'm an italian functional consultant and I'm building a demo project for a prospect. The customer's requirements coverage of Jira has been quite good but there is still a big problem on the following topic. The ITC dept of customer take in charge every kind of issues (from new mouse request to very complex application functionalities) sended from all company's end users. The ITC needing is about the possibility to "hide" to (only) end users "group" all the steps of the issues process leaving them only the possibility to see the creation issue and eventually the status of it (Open, In process, Resolved, Closed). Attached an image that can translate in a better way what I mean. Please let me know if there is someone interested on it and able to develop it. Auto Generate Value for Summary Field -- Need Your Ideas Please!

Hi All, We have a need to auto-generate a value for the Summary field, due to how the Summary field is used in Jira (more as a title on the "summary" screens, etc). I have created 4 custom text fields that will be concatenated together to make up the Summary field. I know that Summary is required, so I had planned to create a Post Function that would execute prior to any other post functions and build and set the value for the Summary field. I did this, but unfortunately it does not work due to the validation catching no value for the Summary field. Do you all have any thoughts on another workaround for this? I'm not trying to disregard the use of the Summary field.... I just want to make it a specific format based on some other separate fields to be sure my users enter the proper information. Many thanks for your help. January Pfiester -- Post by january - online at: http://forums.atlassian.com/thread.jspa?forumID=100&threadID=26491
