Dyslexia- a Boon or a Bane
One of the most common disorders found in children is dyslexia. It is a learning disorder which is there since the birth. It is a life long challenge as there is no specific cure for it. There are a lot of ways in which it can be improved. It is not a sign of laziness or lack of brains; rather it is a neurological disorder that affects people. People with this disorder are often found to be highly creative and excel in three dimension problem solving. It is a hindrance in the way of learning and skills related to it.
What are the Causes?
Causes of this disorder can be known on the basis of its classification. There are three types of this disorder known to people. Each on is distinct from the other in relation to its origin and affects. The types are – primary, secondary and trauma. Primary as the name suggests is the one which is more often found. It is usually passed on through genes in the family and is there in the person since birth. Secondary is the one which is caused due to some hormonal imbalance in the womb and trauma is due to some injury or accident that affects the brain. These are the main causes from where this disorder starts.
Treatment:
There is no solution which can fully cure dyslexia. But there are various treatments which can help people cope with it better. It really helps if it is diagnosed at any early age so that treatment can be started from that time itself. Oral training, speaking and writing sessions, using books and audio aids, etc. help the child in learning and understanding better. Parents, teachers and experts can contribute and help children in gaining confidence in themselves and moving forward in life.
Dyslexia in a Positive Light:
It is found that dyslexic people are extremely creative and original. They are very good in hands on learning and solving three dimensional problems. They may have problems in reading, writing, understanding, and etc. but there power of imagination is very strong. They have a lot of potential to excel in creative fields. They learn best through creative means. They are not disabled people but have certain problems that separate them from others. They also have certain abilities that fulfills for the disadvantages that they have. They are by no means any less than other children. Dyslexia is not an end but another starting of life.
