What is Hypertension?
Hypertension or high blood pressure or arterial hypertension is a few terms which mean the same and are directed to hypertension. Hypertension or as we normally call high blood pressure is the force by which blood flows inside the arteries when the heart pumps blood. The blood gushes against the walls of the arteries and this pressure is measured. There are two kind of pressure which is to be measured in order to see if the pressure of blood is high or normal or low.
Hypertension and its measurement
The two types of pressure that are to be measured are systolic and diastolic. In the systolic we measure the contraction of heart muscles and in the diastolic we measure the relaxation of the same. It is said that if the systolic pressure is above 140 mmHg, then the pressure is high or the person is suffering from hypertension. This pressure must be 120 mmHg for a normal pressure. Hypertension also has a lower limit of measurement which is also equally important. The diastolic pressure in the scientific term as it is called must give a reading of 80 mmHg if it is normal and shows a reading of 90 mmHg is its high. The reason behind hypertension is usually eating habits. In today’s age people are not very worried about the food they have. They mostly survive on the junk food available because of work and the corporate culture anyway does not give time for exercise. In such situation one must look into what he or she is having. Having more of saturated fat and junk food which has low or no fiber content is very bad. These help in the development of cholesterol and are one of the prime reasons for the hypertension. Controlling hypertension is important and the most effective way to do it is through controlling the diet. There are medications also available in the market which is prescribed to people who are not able to control diet or the diet control is just not effective in controlling the problem of hypertension.

Hypertension is a very common disease and the cause isn’t big too. Keeping a little check on the food habits and the living pattern can help in controlling hypertension. People suffering from hypertension should be very careful from the early stage because if the hypertension is borderline then it increases anytime and is harmful.
