Insight of Alzheimer’s Disease
It so often happens that we forget where we placed our files, keys, glasses or other small stuffs. We find it really irritating when we realize that stuffs were lying right in front of us or in their usual places and that we were very unmindful and confused while looking for the same. There is nothing wrong or abnormal regarding the same as it is pretty common with human beings. Just imagine how difficult it might get when these things get common on a day to day basis. This is exactly what happens when a person suffers from the dangerous Alzheimer’s disease.
There are lots of symptoms of the disease starting from difficulty in concentration, problems with speaking, physical coordination, lack of sleep and also issues with judgement. The disease is said to be dangerous because no cure for the same has been found out as of yet. Apart from that the condition of the patients only worsens and eventually leads to death. Thus it becomes a very difficult journey for the patient and the family members as well. The disease also is responsible in making the person forget to do the basic functions such as daily chores. A recent report says that the disease is expected to affect one in every 85 persons by the year 2050. The disease has already captured millions of elderly Americans and the number is ever increasing.
Alzheimer’s disease lies fourth in the list of diseases responsible for highest amount of deaths after heart disease, cancer and stroke. And surprisingly enough the disease is found to be more common in the developed countries. Statistics reveal that out of all the people who suffer from the Alzheimer’s disease, 11% of them are above the age limit of 65 years and a staggering 25-50% of them are above the age of 85 years. Thus even the statistics support the fact that it is common among the elderly. Though the disease is a common form of dementia, it is difficult to diagnose the same. The reason is that some of its symptoms are very close to old age related issues. The diagnosis of the disease is found out to be about 85-90% accurate. So by the time a person reaches the age of 85, there are about 47% chances that they will suffer from the disease. Family history also plays a major role in this disease as 54% of people suffer whose parents had the same.
