I do not have a technical background and so did not know anything about the KVM over IP switch. These technical terms were beyond my comprehension. I decided to read about it and share some of the information with my readers. Usually, the normal KVM switches are known to have some distance limitations. To overcome this drawback the KVM over IP switch was introduced in the market. Needless to say, it became very popular over a short period of time.

With the help of a KVM over IP switch, a user is able to control more than computer at a time. Only one set of peripherals are required here but you will be able to secure the connections without any cables. The units enable effective monitoring as well as controlling via 128 bit secure browser across the world over IP. You can find these units in desktop and also in rack mountable versions. These specially designed units are able to support resolutions that range up to 1920 x 1440 locally. They are also meant to support resolutions that range up to 1600 x 1200 remotely.

These units are designed in such a way that it offers the user a multi-platform support. Customers buy these units as they work well with SUN, Dell, IBM, Mac, HP, UNIX, Netware, Linux operating systems and many more. No wonder why so many people like to purchase it. It has another unique feature and that is the KVM over IP switch is a device that works essentially on plug and play functionality. You will not require any other software or even device drivers for its successful operation. Microcontrollers and a special type of hardware are used to receive the signals that come from the peripheral devices. Then these signals are compressed and converted into packets. These packets are sent via an Ethernet link to a distant console application. This console unpacks and puts together the graphical image.

These units are easily pluggable. Thus, a user is able to add or remove the connected device for routine maintenance. One does not have to power down the systems for this or the switch. Depending on your requirement you can find a KVM over IP device in 8 ports, 16 ports as well as 32 ports. This device is able to control almost 123 servers is it is daisy chained.  Push buttons are made on the front panel for control.
