KALAMAZOO, MI -- Acclaimed Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes worked with Asami Hagiwara and Chelsea Wang, from the University of Iowa and Yaoyue Huang from Michigan State University, during a Gilmore Master Class on Friday at the Dalton Center Recital Hall.
Master classes will be held throughout the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, which runs through May 12.
The master classes are free and open to the public. College and university piano students from
throughout the Midwest are nominated by their professors to
participate as a Gilmore Festival master class student.
The classes allow world-class artists to work one-on-one with young musicians, sharing their insights.
Andsnes, who was the 1998 Gilmore Artist and gave Friday's opening master class, plays concertos in the world’s leading concert halls and with the foremost orchestras. Born in Karmoy, Norway in 1970, he studied at the Bergen Music Conservatory under the renowned Czech professor Jiri Hlinka.
