So I have decided to start broadening my horizons and offer reviews of hotels in other parts of the UK and not just Newry. So this section of the site is going to be dedicated to helping people find cheap hotels in Bath and in the surrounding areas of Somerset. Hopefully I can give out some useful info for anyone who is looking for a good deal on a budget hotel and not just a list of accommodation, ideally I hope my advice can be used anywhere and not just in Bath.
Hotel review : Holiday Inn Express Bath
I’ve always been a fan of the Holiday Inn as it can usually be relied upon to deliver quality accommodation and cheap prices, not just in Bath but all over the country. This particular hotel is self rated at 3 star and is approx half a mile from the city centre which means you shouldn’t have to travel far to get to the shops. Also if you’re flying into Bristol the hotel is around 30 – 40 min away.
As far as extras go there are actually quite a few (considering this is 3 star) because you get:
- Complimentary breakfast
- Free wifi in all rooms
- Air-con in all rooms
- 24 hour reception
- Good disabled access throughout
As far as prices go I can’t really give an accurate figure at the moment because I’m writing this in Dec 2011 and room rates seem to be inflated considerably (£150 for a weekend room, not cheap). Still I do hope to provide a further update on this discount hotel when I get a chance as I think under normal circumstances they have some great budget rooms.
So I plan on doing more hotel reviews on this page soon but hopefully this one will do for now if you’re coming to the Bath region and you’re looking for somewhere to stay. One problem I do envisage having is that when it comes to hotels everyone is looking for something different and what appears “cheap” to one traveller could seem really expensive to someone else. I suppose the best I can do is list the main factors of each hotel and why that justifies (or sometimes doesn’t) the price.
You also have to consider value for money when it comes to booking accommodation as simply going for the cheapest hotel possible could have bad results! That’s not to say there aren’t real bargains out there it’s just that more often than not you have to do quite a bit of searching to find them, but maybe I can help make this process easier for you!
So that’s it for the cheap hotels Bath section for now, please let me know via the contact form if there are any hotels in particular that you would like me to review or talk about and I will do my best to help!
Hotel review : Best Western Bath city centre
Most people will have heard of the Best Western Hotel chain since it’s an internationally recognised name in the accommodation business. This is the main reason I am reviewing this hotel because as I mentioned in the review above, you can always expect a certain level of quality with a reputable chain.
The hotel is rated at 3 star and it’s been graded at that level by the AA which is always better than “self assessed”. For a standard double room you can expect to pay between £120 and £150 per night. Whist this may seem a little expensive to some but for me this is a great price for a hotel this close to the Bath city centre. Your right in the heart of things here with great access to Pulteney Bridge, Thermae Spa and many other great attractions around Bath.
So what are some of the main features of the hotel?
- Wi-Fi in every room and throughout the hotel
- Safety deposit box
- Satellite TV
- 24 hour room service
- Bar / Lounge
- 60 rooms total
The only slightly disappointing aspect was the lack of onsite parking (they do have offsite available at £12.50 a day). I suppose this is just something you have to accept if you want to stay right in the city centre.
As I have mentioned before one of the main benefits of staying right in the city centre is that you’re not spending a big part of your budget on transport. Travellers forget that taxi prices can really start to add up when it comes to getting around Bath and the surrounding areas so even if a hotel in the centre costs more per night you could end up saving in the long run.
I think that just about covers it for this hotel review, if you have any suggestions for hotels in bath you would like to see reviewed then just drop me a mail and ill see what I can do. Until next time.
