History:
a.  The UBCO Varsity Outdoor Club Okanagan was founded in September 2006.  The goal was to bring together as many people as possible who share an interest in getting outdoors.  By the end of that year, VOCO had evolved into an active club with 30 members signed up. There was an energetic core group of 7 members in 2006-2007 that often went climbing, cycling and skiing together throughout the Interior of BC.  VOCO took on more members during 2007-2008 and the result was close to 25 active core members in the club. Frequent potlucks were held where more members began planning and deciding on where to head next. A joint ski trip near Pemberton was held with the Varsity Outdoor Club from the UBC campus in Vancouver and climbers from the Okanagan met the VOC in Smith Rocks in Oregon.  An outdoors community was in the making at UBCO. Many trips that are run today through VOCO were pioneered in the early years of club existence. Trips such as the Learn to Climb weekend at Skaha in Penticton, the Cougar Canyon climbing trip in Vernon, the Smith Rocks climbing trip in Oregon, and Avalanche Safety Training courses at Mt. Apex near Penticton. By 2008-2009 VOCO was expanding rapidly and new executive positions were formed.  That year, with an even larger club, a website and a strong foundation for were built to support the club in the years to come. The club fundraised extensively and increased the gear that was available for members to borrow.  Each year the VOCO hopes to get into the backwoods with more people, explore new places, increase our resources for members, and bring home more good times.
